04 is probably my fav year.. 98 was great too. Those 2 years were deeper but 01 has some of my favs.

2001:
Halo
Grand Theft Auto 3
Metal gear solid 2
Devil May Cry
Jak and Daxter
Gran Turismo 3
Onimusha
Final Fantasy X
Tony Hawk 3
I'll never forget the last 3 months of 01 when Grand Theft Auto III Metal Gear Solid 2 and Final Fantasy X came out in back to back to back months:banderas:

One thing I loved about old school gaming was gaming was it's own domain and unlike anything else and they were willing to take risks. You had games like Bomberman, Poy Poy, PowerStone, Dragon Force, and a bunch of completely original titles. Now gaming is becoming Hollywoodized, and so many games are following a formula

as evidenced by one genre of game taking off and then every game in the next cycle is a carbon copy of the successful game.

That tutorial/Install screen/Patch shyt bugs me to no end. I don't have 6 hours to devote to playing a game, and if anything gets in my way i'm liable to just set it down and never play it again. (Looking at you, Final Fantasy XIII).

Other than that, I miss being able to play games with your friends, especially beat-em-ups. Having 2-4 people running through gunstar heroes or streets of rage or TMNT and teaming up to beat the game was some of my favorite gaming experiences from when I was young.
