No offense OP but that idea can't work these days.. Budgets on movies are getting slashed since the pandemic unless it's a can't miss.
To shoot a movie underwater in The Trench would cost a lot of money...
That's why Black Manta is supposedly coming back for Aquaman 2.
Come on Marvel hire Yahya Abdul-Mateen II to play Black Panther from a different universe….
Batman only became a billionaire dollar investment because they invested in him and his characters.I was really looking forward to The Trench movie just because it was going to be Wan doing a horror movie set in the DCEU.
Having Black Manta as the protagonist of a horror flick would've been cool as fukk.
I recall around the time the cancellation of The Trench was announced it was supposed to be because WB wanted Wan to direct it and his schedule was so booked that it would've been a while before he could get to it.
Aquaman is a horrible franchise
I agree that a Manta spinoff would be cool but the story was that WB only wanted The Trench movie if it was directed by Wan which meant it wasn't going to be made any time soon because of scheduling and Wan himself admits that he was holding the idea that this was going to be a Black Manta movie as a secret.Batman only became a billionaire dollar investment because they invested in him and his characters.
Is Batwoman worth the budget? Heck nah, but it keeps the Bat property in people’s minds.
Eventually you get a Joker, Harley Quinn, or Catwoman.

They kept the Rock attached to Black Adam for ten years and not because of the Shazam family.I agree that a Manta spinoff would be cool but the story was that WB only wanted The Trench movie if it was directed by Wan which meant it wasn't going to be made any time soon because of scheduling and Wan himself admits that he was holding the idea that this was going to be a Black Manta movie as a secret.
So it's not like WB canceled a Black Manta spin-off.
They wanted a horror movie spin-off directed by the horror movie director and that just didn't time out.
It wouldn't shock me if they revived the project after Aquaman 2 comes out (and if A2 is successful enough) and the studio is looking for more spinoff properties or content for HBO Max.They kept the Rock attached to Black Adam for ten years and not because of the Shazam family.
If they have faith they will wait and prioritize. Wan isn’t skipping out on the studio.
If Matrix is successful, Yaya might be booked up but I hope so. Both dudes are in house. It wouldn't shock me if they revived the project after Aquaman 2 comes out (and if A2 is successful enough) and the studio is looking for more spinoff properties or content for HBO Max.
