lol I remember when me and my cousin would call up the wcw hotline to get some dirt on who else was jumping ship from wwf and joining the nWo.

When we heard Mean Jean's voice we were like :gladbron: until we realized that it was a tape recording:rudy:. It was actually a waste of time

Half the time, I would just dial the number and hang up lol, but it got to a point that we ended up running up the phone bill and we got in trouble :Icry:

This like around '97 I think. Oh good times

Watching these old ppvs...anybody ever call them and get real inside info? Mean Gene is out here hyping up defections from WWF and shyt:why:

I always figured it was BS....

Naw man....Mean Gene was foul as fukk for those, and he got into some deep shyt. He would give deliberately misleading teasers in order to encourage people to call, and soon WCW legal team caught on and fired him because he was exposing the company to potential charges of fraud and misrepresentation. Thats why the WWF made fun of him with those "scheme gene" skits.

I was reading an old wrestling observer, and in one "report" Gene gave the distinct impression that Ric Flair died (he said something like "a 45 year old blond charismatic world champion has recently passed away, and the wrestling world is stunned. Call now for details" ), and it turned out to be some scrub dikkhead from Yugoslavia or somethin that nobody had ever heard of.

WCW rehired him at a sharply reduced pay rate, and they put him on a tight leash never again allowing him to do any of those crazy dishonest teasers.

I believe he also did a huge buildup for a "big star" signing in 1997 and it ended up being Perry Saturn :russ:
