My issue isn't that they won it, it's that neither had anything to gain FROM winning it.
Britt Baker is still by the by the focus of the women's division without the title for the most part, so it's not like she needed it. Cole is in with The Bucks & Kenny (for now), so he didn't need it.
I get that he wanted his biggest names for it, I get WHY he'd want his biggest names to win it first. But this shyt could've been used to elevate people and been the building blocks for a meaningful push by being the first to do it.

Adam Cole has been dragging down the product ever since he debuted and ReDragon is only making it worse. Punk and Danielson are portraying completely different characters, wrestling completely different people, etc. Adam Cole is the exact same character from NXT. Winning his matches the exact same way from NXT. He single handedly took the hottest babyface in pro wrestling and derailed his championship run like Corbin did to Seth Rollins. What good has he done since he's been with AEW? Who has he elevated?
The initial fukk up was not making The Owen a young talent specific tournament designed to make a breakout star.
The roster is full of young, hungry talented wrestlers that could've benefitted from winning a tournament like this.
Everything that happened after not doing it that way was a miss in my opinion to the format of the tournament to the people included in it to the eventual winners.

On the real, the entire cup was rigged from the jump in favor of Cole/Britt. All and all the entire cup was a waste of fukking time since we all knew who was going to win. If they wanted to do something in Owen's name, just create a battle royale. Hell, a no storyline league as well. shyt, have two wrestlers that were apart of the dungeon go at it for Owen's legacy.
Obvious issue with the winners but that's been stated. No need for the belts tho. Especially if they will be defended frequently and not just in an annual tournament. I agree that they do Ned like a big kotr/g1 type of tourney but not dedicated to a dead wrestler that never worked for them and who lot of the talent prolly wasn't even watching when he was alive. Could be a thing tho but on a smaller scale from now on. Use it to highlight and elevate young upcoming stars. No big awards ceremony needed tho.

The tournament never made sense to begin with. Owen or any of the harts for that matter has ever wrestled for aew.
