We all know Ken Griffey Jr has the GOAT swing, but where does Gary Sheffield rank?

I wouldn't call it a good looking swing or anything....but it's probably the least replicable swing in baseball history. If you go the cage and try swing like Sheff you're gonna need to stop by the emergency room on the way home.

it really does make you realize how strong his wrists were.

i tried that shyt in HS, made contact... but it was one of them ones where it hurts your hands and shoots up your arm.

got to second and was :noah: at how i would never do that shyt ever again.

I tried that shyt in the cages. After a couple hits I was :sadbron:. Also I could not do that hitting left handed. I tried it and I damn near fell.

Its crazy how Sheff started doing the bat waggle to slow down his bat in the minors because his bat was so quick he was hooking a lot of would be homers foul.

Same with Eric Davis. You don't appreciate how strong (and QUICK) your wrists have to be to generate that kind of bat speed from that stance...'til you actually try it. :sadbron:

I dont think he had a sweet swing, he just had the fastest bat speed i have ever seen. And i was a huge Sheffield fan, check the screen name.

it wasn't sweet. it was fukking violent! but trill at the same time.

crazy shyt was, growing up, that was my natural swing. my bat speed was nuts for a little dude (steady doubles and triples cause dudes would play me short my first at-bat, then lefty shift for my second at-bat). it's crazy, cause as long as i made contact i always had perfect balance. but if i missed??? lol. always had to catch myself before i stumbled.

offspeed shyt was kryptonite x10 for me though. never learned how to slow my swing down until after i stopped playing.

strawberry swing was sweet. he had the illest swing imo til griff came thru and crushed the buildings.

I wouldn't compare Griffey & Sheff. Griffey's swing was pure finesse. Sheff's was about speed & aggression. Both got it done, but when I think of great swings, Griffey is at the top, Sheff is not in the discussion.

I'm surprised some posters in here who say they played organized baseball were allowed to even try Sheff's swing during a game.

NO respectable hitting coach would allow that much bat movement out of a high school player.
