I wonder if this is start of a negotiation phrase or more of a we tried. Crane has shown not to go over 5 years from the Lance/Altuve and Bregman extensions.

Which is fair but these guys always want the extra years. Why not go 5/$175 and get his prime years? He'd be a FA again at 31 and someone would give him another crazy deal.

If I was running a team, I'd have no problem paying crazy AAV for a handful of years that should be incredibly productive.

that’s what I said about his age. He just turned 27. So at 32 he still can rake in another 100 million contract

Why not both? The Mets need pitching. If David Peterson is seeing significant time and Carrasco pitches as poorly as he did this past season, it's going to be a long 22. Don't forget how bad Taijuan Walker was.
