He could have been on some Andre 3000 stuff or some Mos Def stuff..

Biggest song "Like a Pimp" featuring a Pimp C sample.

SMH.

Too scared to even name names.

He's not talking about Puffy and the freak off squads.

Weirdo could mean Drake, but it could easily apply to Lil Wayne or drug using Future or dress wearing Young Thug or LGBT Tyler. He certainly ain't talking about Earthgang or Flatbush Zombies or Aesop Rock. And by today's standards Yaasin and flute boy are also weird.

He's part of the very decline the he's complaining about. This ain't Ice Cube level hypocrisy, but it's in the same vein. Career ain't popping so these cats stir the pot on social media. Blame this, that, and a third instead of looking in the mirror.

Beautiful!

I been said this all these new rappers are Jay Z babies. I am not a rapper I am a hustler mentality. I dont write rhymes this is just a hustle to me mentality. Making the poet lyricist MC look like a true sucker. The culture is so inept and spotting an aid from an anchor. A benefit from a detriment, and I like David Banner can see this sh1t for what it is. This is weaponized hiphop bought by the CIA.

Well anyone with legit business acumen knows a hustlers works like dog sh1t with their head on swivel over few pennies. Nothing to glamorize but we in the culture got sh1t so warped.

And what's ironic is that despite all the talks Jay z did about I'm a hustler and the music thing is just a money grab thing, you can tell that he was eager to succeed in the music business. He came into it in 89 and persevere trying to get signed when no label wanted him so much so that he had to create his own label to be able to release his first album. It took him 7 years to finally blow up. You don't do all that if it's just a side hustle

Hiphop going leaning fully into hood sensibilities and morality, and reflecting that back at CACs.. has been a double edged sword

Those audiences associate those traits of the genre as being the primary ones, but it's also genuine/earnest material that don't really age, so here we are 50 years later

Jay Z is a perfect example of someone who leaned into that ethos but actually cared about the music as well

Very true and even on that collabo with Damian Marley he refers to himself as a poet. So I know its just braggadocio raps for the most part but his influence has been negative off that. It is not entirely his fault if I can compare him to 'The Rock' and the garbage that is wrestling now. You see everyone has followed the Rocks gimmick of telling jokes and not pro-wrestling promos.

So much so that wwe is like Saturday Night Live now but it is not The Rock's fault that was his own gimmick to crack on people but the impact has been negative due to not everyone is as great as The Rock. Same with Jay not everyone can do what Jay does but his influence has been negative. Ultra negative the hiphop game now is Jay Z sons and all follow his mantra.

'I dumb down to double my dollars'

'I'm not a rapper I'm a hustler'

'Roc a wear 80 mill in like 18 months, you can bullsh1t with rap if you want' - Jay (4 da Roc)

Most MC's who love Jay and always say he is the goat are the hustler/drug dealing MC's. TI, Young Jeezy sh1t all south and NYC hustlers too. That is not Jay's fault but it is what it is. Especially now he is on an "artistic wave".

nah he admitted he dumbed down his rhyme and he started pop chasing especially in the 2000s
dumbed down relative to what he could do if rhyming for rhyming sake was his goal

it was never not clear he was great with words

you could never confuse his rhymes with coming from someone simple or slow aHA

I’ve said it plenty of times here… Jay is the true gift and curse with hip hop.

He also had the Crooked Lettaz album and Cadillac on 22s :yeshrug:

Peopke let actors and social media stars treat rap like a summer job and shyt. Jaden Smith and Childish Gambino are two that can rap decent but they’re really only actors treating rap like a person who needs a quick little second job or hustle to get cash right quick. We are too far gone and I don’t know how it’ll get fixed

But Jay Z clearly is a true rapper who has love for the art itself. He just plays it like he's simply a hustler.

It's not possible to do what he does and did without putting your time in.
