COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - With all the focus of the South Carolina Democratic Primary on Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, a third democratic hopeful held a small gathering to address his supporters.

Dr. Willie Wilson was joined by close friends and family in Columbia, Saturday night.

The under the radar candidate and former Chicago mayoral candidate was hoping to receive between 15 to 20 percent of the vote in South Carolina. With 83% of precincts reporting, Wilson was under one percent.

The self-funding candidate said he comes from the Jim Crow era and knows becoming president isn't an easy task.

Wilson said his campaign is aimed at providing free education and eliminating student loan debt. He is also an advocate of the Black Lives Matter movement.



Wilson noted his frustration with not being included in the democratic debates and it has him rethinking his party affiliation.

"I'll tell you this much if I had known the democratic party for whatchacallit inclusion, I'd probably would have run independent or republican alright. But this is a lesson for me also, but it's also a lesson for the people that I know," said Wilson.

The democratic hopeful said if his bid for the White House ends, he will consider a run as Chicago mayor.
