Some of the defectors that joined them may have been US funded (let's not forget about US funding of Middle-Eastern fighters to war against the Soviet Union), but it's starting to get silly to believe the US is directly finding ISIS.
Bashar is lucky that the Russians have had a base there for 40 years. He's also lucky that a bunch of radicals from the caucuses came to Syria to fight.
