We knew this was coming: Entourage movie getting panned by critics

Well you said he wasn't a believable superstar actor and lazy in real life and on the show. I can't comment on Adrian Grenier (besides, he may be type cast) but in the show, he didn't want to be a superstar actor. He wanted to be an indie-actor and was only driven by the projects that he had a passion for. He wasn't chasing Hollywood, unlike his brother, who was trying to be in everything to keep his name out there. Ari is the one that pushed for him to be a superstar because he was a natural, likable and a pretty boy. If you didn't believe him as an actor, did you believe them as real friends? That's what the whole show was about; their interaction with each other.

And as for the show not making you want to see something with him in real life, you do know that Entourage was a parody, right? Johnny Drama's career is damn near identical to Kevin Dillon's career.

You really said Dana Gordon? She had like 10 lines, 8 of them in one episode. Shawna was just as much as a memorable character as Dana Gordon.

Does the show have a huge following? I'm not being a jerk by asking either that's a genuine question because i figure if it did have a huge following or at least as huge as Sex and the city since someone mentioned that as an earlier comparison, we wouldn't be having this discussion. HBO never releases numbers for their shows as far as ratings go so all we have is word of mouth but if that word of mouth comes from just people in your inner circle, how can you tell?

My belief? It's a niche show with a niche audience and a lot of them kinda aged out of it. My best friend was a huge fan when we were in college but he said once he graduated and now that we're 7 years removed from college, the show's appeal died off for him; that male fantasy of being in hollywood with women at your beckon and not a care in the world and no drama ever just doesn't resonate with him anymore. He said he feels like that's the fantasy of an 18-21 year old..maybe 22, but once you move on from that, get your career going, start thinking about a house and kids and a wife, shyt changes. Of course that's his take, I can't speak for it cause I'm not a fan, just observing.

I think if the show was truly that big of a hit and had that big of an audience, then it wouldn't have been so hard to get this movie made to begin with which it was. The studio would've instantly given it the green light rather than dragging their feet on it like they did and of course the numbers would've been there. Either the fanbase has dwindled over the 4 years the show has been off the air, or some people felt like my other boy: He doesn't want to see it on the strength of how he felt about the last season. He's got no desire to sit through it.

I think the other thing for Sex and the city, aside from being huge culturally, is the fact that at that time and even now, women don't get that many movies aimed specifically to them. So they came out but then again sex and the city 2 wasn't as big domestically as it was internationally so even then, the audience in the U.S. seemed to have said they had their full, they were ready to move on. So maybe the group that Entourage appealed to is just ready to move on too

As someone who watched all 8 seasons of Entourage and is currently a Workaholics viewer I feel exactly what you said. I think me and you are around the same age (27), and Entourage pretty much ended a year or so around the time I "grew out" of it, and I think I grew out of Workaholics 2/3 years ago, but the completest in me has to finish is, even if that means watching it in the background while I iron or some shyt.

It was funny. because a couple people earlier in this thread were trying to break down "what the show was about" and what it's intentions were, and it took all my power to not hit reply, knowing damn well Doug Elin hasn't put in as much thought as they did into "what Entourage was about".

I literally listened to Elin on a podcast talk about how he kinda wrote it for his boys back in Long Island or some shyt, as a way to live out the dreams they can't/couldn't have, but people here were trying to make it out to be some kind of take-down of the star system, what Hollywood means to those in it, how Vince was an indie-actor at heart etc. etc.

Yeah it happens man. We just outgrow some tuff. Doesn't mean it's "bad" just means it no longer appeals to us.

Yeah basically. He even said it was hard for him to make an objective review although he tried. Which is why I agree with someone who in the thread who said it should've went to HBO first as just an HBO movie and then put it out on home video after. Keep more money that way. Once the theaters take their cut of the money, studio still has to hope to make a profit

See I never saw them as "douchbags" maybe I am one too but seriously they were basically kids running around Hollywood with millions and the GOAT agent that kept them working, and I believe everyone on the show was casted to be 20-25 with E being almost 30 well drama was old but we all have that family member who is 40 going on 22.. But yea I loved the movie, but at the same time didn't feel the way I would have 5 years ago, and I think their audience is in the same boat as me....

I walked out right when the credits started, so I didn't see if there was anything else with Ronda/Turtle, there probably should've been. Wish they wouldve done more with Billy Walsh too.

I'm 27 too.

I wouldn't necessarily say I grew out of Entourage, although the last 2 seasons were terrible, the show just wasn't good/important enough, even in its prime for me to spend $12 to go see it.

Sex was a much bigger show, probably in ratings and definitely culturally.

And like @MartyMcFly said, you'll have a lot more success when the movie is aimed directly at women. I know women in their 40s that made a girls night out the premiere. Go out, get some cosmos, then go to the show. Entourage isn't that type of movie.

Once it becomes available, it'll be something I'll throw on on a Saturday afternoon.

To me, Workaholics is a little different. The issue with that is that the quality has fallen off, Always Sunny is dealing with the same issue. The premise still works because they're my age and the idea of people being my age still trying to be on some college/goofy shyt works.

There was more after the credits (not related to Ronda/Turtle, though).

Billy is best is small doses. They could've done a bit more with him, but I'm glad they didn't over do it.
