And how it's overrated and shouldn't be taken at his value.

No, this isn't about Okada/Omega, but this thread was inspired by it. We all know we should judge things based on what we the viewer see. In the wrestling community (and even the industry to an extent) Meltz's view is like the Bible.

I was just watching a match with Styles and Ibushi that he gave 4.75 stars. Now that's high. The match, however, was far from that. It's a good match, don't get me wrong, but he rated it to high.

Another match, or matches, I wanna point out are Austin/Hart. WM13, A 5 star match according to Double Talk. Now before this match happened the 2 faced off at Survivor Series 96. A 4.5 match (Meltzer). That match, in my eyes, is a classic. I like the Mania one, but the SS one was better. I think Austin (and maybe Bret?) even said it was better, too.

Of course it's all opinion. When this dude Meltzer gives his thoughts on a match, people shouldn't hang on it like it's gospel.

It's your opinion vs another person's opinion.

That person just happens to be more popular than you.

I mean really.... all your points are that you liked matches more than he did or less than he did, so his star rating system has to be wrong and shouldnt be taken as gospel.

Of course it shouldnt. It's just his opinion.

I highly doubt wrestlers pull off matches that Meltz rates 4 or 4.5 and fret cause said match wasn't "good enough".

Honestly it's just guidelines for how good a match may or may not be. I'm bored and wanna watch a good wrestling match I havent seen? Lets trawl through Meltz' match ranking archives.

.

That's what I've been pointing out several times in my post. :dwillhuh:

I never said that nor did I imply it.

I'm just saying that a lot of people take his view on matches too seriously. Look at the entire Okada/Omega debates that have been going on in the wrestling community. "OMG! 6 STARS?!? Wtf?!?"

Hell, there are even sites dedicated to his ratings report.

Everywhere
Meltz been doing this since before alot of yall were born. He's one of the few wrestling journalist/historians still doing it at a decent level.

So yeah people are gonna pay attention when he puts something out. People aren't just gonna throw him in the bushes overnight.

My only gripes about his system

I prefer grades over numbers

He gives Japan matches passes for shyt he criticizes American matches for (finisher spam, kickout fests, the "wrong guy" winning...Non sensical spots...He doesn't care if matches are just logic free flippy shyt...In fact that's +1 star)

I know, But reporting gossip/rumors is another thing. So he gives his views on a match, okay, fine, he's entitled to it. But cats shouldn't make a big deal about it.

Should I care what a famous movie critic thinks about a movie? Or what the Source gave that new Nas album?

Just KIM and view it thru ur own eyes without the wool of another opinion blocking yours.

Imagine questioning the god. Will never be another one like him.
Dude sometimes gets a hard on for the Japanese Wrestling but dude has literally followed this shyt for like 40 years as a career. And it's not like most of us who's followed WWE since we were kids. Dude literally watches all the promotions. Not that many around with that much knowlege on what we love in wrestling.
