I mean, I know hes the better player but does his career thus far warrant him being a top 5 SF already ahead of Pierce?

You're absolutely clueless. Pierce doesn't come close to Erving on an all-time list. The only SFs that deserved to be definitively ranked ahead of him are LeBron and Bird. How the hell you are stating that Pierce is better and it's not even close - I don't know.

Durant probably shouldn't even be ranked at this point of his career, he'll probably be #2 when it's all said and done though.

Gil you gotta explain to me ranking Dr. J over Pierce.

He had more impact on the game (on both ends - especially on defense), better skillset, general all-around play and he had a better career in relation to the era he played in. I don't particularly put too much stock into canon players and what relevance that has to actual impact, but he changed the way the game was played - the league wasn't equipped to deal with his style at the time.

All-time? Yeah, I'd take Baylor and Barry over Pierce. You got Nique and Havlicek that are in the conversation too. Pierce isn't in the top 5.

I can safely say I'm not one of those "old heads", in fact I've been accused of being the very opposite on this board many a time.

His NBA championship wins, legitimatizes his ABA Championships. In my opinion.


I have Dr. J over Pierce, no question. You have to judge players within the context of their times. Dr. J changed the sport of basketball, revolutionized it, Pierce didn't.
