QB Philip Rivers says he'll listen if Saints call

Retired NFL quarterback Philip Rivers said he'll listen if the New Orleans Saints give him a call.

Rivers, 39, told the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday he has not heard from the Saints, who lost starter Jameis Winston to a season-ending knee injury on Sunday.

Trevor Siemian relieved Winston in the 36-27 victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

New Orleans hopes to get Taysom Hill back from a concussion this week and also has rookie Ian Book available.

The Saints (5-2) host the Atlanta Falcons (3-4) on Sunday.

Rivers ranks fifth in NFL history in passing yards (63,440) and sixth in touchdown passes (421). The eight-time Pro Bowl selection compiled a 134-106 record in 17 seasons with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers (2004-19) and Indianapolis Colts (2020).

We just need to suck this year so we can get a high draft pick.

Try to fill needs at skill positions and maybe run it back one more year with Jameis.

We been needing another big play receiver for years and Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis draft an o-lineman every year. Deontae Harris is a nice special teams player and a situational down the field threat but not an every down receiver. He’s to small, can’t block, and stays hurt a lot too.

We could use another pass rushing defensive end Cam Jordan is starting to show his age, and a cover corner as well. I would love a good blocking and pass catching tight end as well. Probably should have kept Cook, but I understand letting him go from a financial standpoint for a team in salary cap hell.

I’d rather just suck it up this year and start building for the future and run it back one more year with Jameis and if he gets hurt again or doesn’t deliver then draft a QB for the future.

A 39 year old Philip Rivers is a bandaid on a stab wound.

We actually have a good defense this year, but the defense can’t do much when the offense can’t move the ball. You not holding any of those elite teams to 10 points consistently in today’s game.

39 year old Rivers >>>> Jameis. Stop acting like Phillip wasn't balling just last year.

39 year old Rivers throwing to third and fourth string receivers and having running backs that are nicked up and can’t play half the time is NOT the answer in my opinion.

For me it’s not about grabbing a player now that might be good enough to have us competing for a wild card to get in and be a one dive team in the playoffs or don’t even if we make the playoffs possibly. Those type of moves scream the definition of a treadmill franchise.

Id rather go through a lite rebuild like we did 2014-2016. Grab a few young players on rookie contracts and build for the future. In the NFL, you can turn it around in a year or two.

Say what you want about Jameis but we were on our way to a wildcard if not winning the division out right and being a dangerous team in the playoffs before he got hurt. I’m not saying he’s in the upper echelon of QBs currently in the league but Sean Payton is a good enough play caller to win with a guy like him as long as you got a line to block for him, a little bit of a running game, and 2 or more receivers that can consistently catch the ball and move the chains on 3rd downs. We don’t have that right now. We got a bunch of practice squad guys at skill positions outside of Kamara and an aging Mark Ingram when they are healthy.

And outside of Ram... None of them been elite. So, we are really striking out twice
That shyt is hella annoying. I know Sean Payton’s offensive scheme is predicated on having a good o-line spreading teams out with athletic o-lineman that can block and get down the field on those screen passes and shyt, but you have fill your other positions of need periodically too. Our receiving corps has been meh outside of Micheal Thomas (when healthy) for the last several seasons now.

So you have no weapons and a very average oline that won't stay healthy....
