i always thought los angeles from hiphops invention until run dmc as being really interesting and unique. they seemed to have their own thing going on there, like they took early hiphop sounds and put their own spin on it. i wish i were old enough to get it. stuff like arabian prince sitting side by side with NWA on their first album was different. also i read 'panic zone' was originally 'hispanic zone' :mjlol: would love to hear that.

i would like to know more about that time period but it doesnt seem to be as appreciated as new york.

I think it morphed with just less emphasis on the acrobatics as in breaking and more so focused on dancing. Every year or every few years hip-hop generates a new popular dance. And even with these hip dances through dance routines acrobatics is still usually incorporated. Soulja Boy’s dance, Laffy Taffy, Gettin’ Lite (5Gz, Tone Wop etc), Jookin’, Harlem Shake, Tutting, Hip Rock, Stanky Leg, The Reject, Lean With It Rock With It, The Dougie, Cat Daddy, Stanky Leg, Aunt Jackie are all children of breakdancing.

As for breaking though, sadly Asians are the faces of it. Black people churn out so many cultural products and often never get the profits that capitalism generates from their creative endeavors. Often leading to the frequent discarding and starting anew.

“Globalization is in a lot of ways just colonization in a gift basket. And in that basket is the cultures of conquered peoples commodified. Capitalism in its reliance on an exploited caste to sustain itself is unequivocally a beneficiary of white supremacy.”

You have people on a Hip Hop based forum no less that have been saying for decades now that breakin, grafitti and pretty much anything that isn't to do with the racket of the rap game is "white boy shyt".

We disowned those elements because they were harder package up and sell.

Way before the controversy, when asked about the southern takeover in the mid 2000's Afrika Bambatta said on Video Music Box that it was a good thing because Hip Hop is supposed to spread and be global. He then brought up how Asians dominating breakdancing was also a good thing because the culture is global. I say all of that because it stood out when you said "sadly Asians are the face of it" when Bam once said that it was a good thing because the culture is supposed to be global.
