I really dont think there was a rush needed to get Matas out there, I like how hes coming along right now. Billy made him earn his minutes, Im generally OK with that. He made him reinforce the importance of the basics like just being in the right place on defense, etc
Earn his minutes? He's always been getting minutes, the issue is he was just rewarding Pat minutes over him for no reason at all. I could tell since the Summer League that he had a great feel for the game. He quickly answered any doubts the coaching staff should of had defensively seeing his block % rate is literally All-Time levels despite his coach fukking him on playing time.

I'm still mad we didn't draft Matas and then flip Caruso for OKC's 1st or SAC's 1st on draft night and got Ware too.

what about this explanation didnt you like? I think holding Matas accountable to earn his PT and talk about where he needed to improve is a thoughtful strategy
Matas should have been getting at least 15 minutes since day 1. I've watched every game. He's held his own defensively, he's shot 3s at a respectable level, those were the biggest concerns and reasons he wouldn't be on the floor. Well, he performed fine. He has had a higher defensive rating that Patrick for a while now.what about this explanation didnt you like? Playing Torrey Craig, who you just waived or THT minutes over your lottery pick in a developmental year is unserious shyt. Especially when he's been hoopin' and flashing since he suited up for you in the Summer.
If I'm a player in the locker room and my coach is telling me I have to earn my minutes and I see guys playing over me that aren't doing more or playing better I'm not buying into whatever he's saying. I'm sorry.
The kid is ultra confident, so I'm not even going to credit Billy for developing him because he's been doing enough to play already. Dude just never wavered in having confidence in himself because he knew Billy was on bullshyt basically.
yeah I disagree on this one. The coaching staff is seeing a lot more than we can see just watching the games. If he just dropped Matas on the floor and didnt hold him accountable that would be more problematic for me(I mean look at Patrick Williams). He seems to be developing right on schedule and getting better as the season goes on, what dont you like about his development? I thought that answer Billy provided made sense and its starting to show results in Matas play. His development is one of the few bright spots of this team right now
