Carolina, Florida, Vegas and Dallas all seem to have good fan bases though 
Seattle is proving to be a strong TV market for NHL, definitely helps that Las Vegas is also a good TV market since they were introduced.

Seems like Houston and Salt Lake City are the front runners. The owner of the Jazz met with Bettman a few weeks ago to discuss putting a team in SLC, and has been pushing really hard for it.
There was some scuttlebutt about Houston about a year ago but it died down. I don't think they were successful in working something out with Fertitta/Toyota Center. I'm skeptical if a NHL team could work there.
Every couple of months since Ferttita took over the Rockets there’s been a story about him working to bring an NHL franchise to Houston. At this point I don’t take any of that discussion seriously. Ferttita seems like the type of person that just likes to generate buzz and keep his name in the headlines.
