I wish I knew more about investing when I was younger....
As a black man and I could be wrong but I feel like I didn't learn anything about investing, hell anything about finances really until I was older...like, there wasn't an opportunity to learn early on
I plan to teach my kids about investing, credit, and other financial tools so they are way better prepared than I was.
Honestly, I think it starts in schools. I did black school districts all the way from k-10 in ATL. But moved into a white one in 11th-12th grade. I can tell you the difference in financial consciousness within the student bodies was stark. Legit not a single word was said about stocks, bonds, retirement,or business plans in the black district. The only financial move discussed was college.
But Only 2months into take classes in the white district, they were already discussing s-corps, mutual funds, and 10-point business plans. Hell the white districts made it mandatory for you to take at least on financial literacy course, but that course usually led students to take more classes by initiative. Beyond this, the white district had actually biz people leading the courses, who offered mentorship+referrals beyond the coursework.
So, With these differences in black+white education, It didnt take a leap of imagination to see which type of school district would be accumulating wealth through investments in 20 or so years.
