If you think you're lonely now, ohhh girl...
Horror films don't take themselves seriously nowadays. This film could have been great, but the unorthodox storytelling and silly, unserious tone held it back. I think it was a good 7/10 film.

The possessed peoples eyes reminded me of the possessed woman's eyes at the end of suspiria. I don't think that's a coincidence.

I agree wholeheartedly. I think this movie is like a 7.5/8. I like horror movies that don’t double as comedies.

Unlike seemingly a lot of people on this forum, I actually like Barbarian. It’s such an inversion of horror tropes (i.e., in the wrong place at the wrong time). Barbarian asks, “Well, what if you’re in the right place and any time would’ve been the wrong time?”

This movie tries to subvert the expectations by being wayyyyyyyy different than trailer. I actually like that, but I got pulled out of the movie a lot with the comedic aspects of the film. Like, my man had the meth-head get tossed four times on some Naked Gun shyt.

Generally, I think this movie is about how performing and conforming to social niceties can land us in even more dire situations than if we had just challenged the circumstance directly.

No, your old ass can’t live with us. No, you can’t come in. No, you can’t have a bowl of water. No, you can’t speak on behalf of the parents. And so on and so on.

Dope premise but I prefer a more serious tone.

This shyt was an hour 40 of slow burn set up for a payoff that didn't warrant hour 40 of set up.:francis:

I'm extra hot because I avoided every piece of media after the teaser because I knew this was about to some FIRE. shyt was damn near a slapstick comedy by the end.
Jesus :snoop: are you telling me I’m bout to get long legs’d again

Edit:

Watched it last night at IMAX. it was same level as LONGLEGS.

:mjlol: The criticisms I just read in here..... I'm not gonna waste my time picking them apart. Some people just wanna be miserable lol

The movie made perfect sense and I'll leave it at that.
I actually think it's the opposite way. Only a person who has had very little to no real life experiences could find this movie entertaining, because they don't know any better. If you ever dealt with the police for any reason, you would know that they don't remotely act that way.

If you got kids the age of this movie you KNOW they can't keep a secret for shyt :mjlol: . Aint no way he would not have said anything. Kids that age tell everything. EVERYTHING:mjlol:. I mean you can find countless criminal cases that were broke cause some teacher asked a kid why he been quiet all week and he says some shyt like "daddy hit mommy and then took her in a room and I haven't seen mommy since":mjlol:

If you got kids that age you know damn well before you say some real shyt you look around and make sure they aint in the room cause I promise you if you say some shyt in front of your 8 year old son all it will take is for somebody outside to say the word mexican or mexico and this little mufugga going to blurt out "my daddy said all the mexicans who voted for trump are going to get deported by trump.":mjlol:

Saying this movie made "perfect sense" is like walking through someone's front door directly into their master bathroom. :mjlol:

I'm not reading all of your "what ifs" .... Explain in detail why this particular movie "didn't make sense"

You said someone would think twice about a kid buying a bunch of canned soup :mjlol: I promise you nobody is giving a fukk what some kid is buying at the grocery store. Nobody would care. The cashiers are likely miserable and just want to go home. Nobody would care.

I liked Barbarian a lot honestly and that is primarily because of the tone in the first half of the movie, when she goes looking for Keith in the basement. The tone gets broken when they show the monster in the basement, which also was comedic. I don't think directors nowadays know how to make a scary film. Even 2 of the most popular and critically acclaimed films of the last 10 years, Hereditary and Midsommar, had comedic effects that detracted from the tone of the movie. Again, I don't think these directors know how to make a film scary, nor do I think they know how to create a compelling horror story. This wasn't a bad film, but those odd choices in the story structure and then the random comedic effects ruined it from being great.

Now let's take a look at the ring camera criticism

Dude said that the ring camera showed where the kids were going. It did not. It showed the kids disappearing into the woods. Breh said they'd be able to track where they went. Did you walk out of the theater to take a piss or get more snacks? The witch knew they'd be canvassing the area and searching the houses and they did just that. She saw them coming and was ready for it. You give police too much credit. There's children that go missing and are found years later a couple miles down the road.

:mjlol: Breh said "you need to have life experience".... Lmaooooooo

So the movie doesn't have a serious tone? That might turn me off to it, and keep me from seeing it. I'm not really a horror person, but I like serious movies. I don't want to walk into a bait and switch.
