Adidas needed to put D.Rose in lowtops. With his super-high, lockdown ankle supports, he was basically in ski boots stabilizing the ankle, but it then transfers any awkward weight shifts/potential ankle rolls all onto his knees. You can walk off an ankle-roll, you can't walk off a knee roll/buckle.

Lowtops would've at least let his ankle eat up some of the weight transfer/tension instead of stressing his knees all the time, especially after the first knee issues came about.

Duncan doesn't play an athletic style of ball though
