Its real breh. I talk alot of shyt about Jay but, one thing about him is he wants nikkas to make their own way. He tried the whole "we family" stuff with the Roc, and it ended up with a bunch of 40 year old dudes still expecting him to "look out" Now he's more hands off and that approach forces a nikka to come into his own instead of being a highly compensated employee (Wayne). Eventhough Kanye was once Jay's artist, today he can stand next to Jay as an peer and it doesn't look weird, while Lil Wayne is 33 years old and still has to ask Birdman when the check coming Id still have to watch Shawn and his slimy ways but, I'm sure you could pick up alot of game from Hov about the industry, and as seen with Kanye, he's okay with you growing into your own. A nikka like Birdman would never ever ever do that. He'll never try to give Wayne that guidance because if Wayne became too smart, he'll start asking himself why he needs Birdman.
