Triple doubles don't lead to wins, period. And they never have. Folk have just been conditioned to believe they do, because the box score is all they've ever basically known. Sports fans suffer from neophobia more than any other rec-group.
I addressed this over and over, but ya'all still too dumb to understand. Weztbrook chases triple-doubles every game. Chasing triple-doubles don't lead to wins..
Advanced stats haven't ruined the game. Advanced stats have ruined casual sports talk. The funny thing is, apart from the odd post about his shot-selection (which I've criticized him for in the past), my main criticism is actually directed towards those who believe his play has been great this season because he's averaging a triple double, and/or the team is only winning when he gets a triple double. His play has been GREAT this season, there's no denying that, but it isn't because he's averaging a triple double, same applies to the team winning too. By saying he's playing great this season because he's averaging a triple double, is basically undervaluing how great his play has actually been. Folk have been brainwashed by the traditional box score, that not only do they drown in xenophobia when other stats (that are more reflective of impact) are brought to the table, but they view the game almost entirely from what goes on in the box score. Ignoring all context and activity during a game in favor of a minimal amount of surface numbers that have little to no resemblance of actual impact.
It's even more funny when those same people say "advanced stats" have ruined the game, when the numbers they use are the ones that have actually ruined it.
But hey, sports fans are content with being in a dumbed-down state, rather than discussing what's actually going on.
Name a player who took a team to 55+ wins by himself.
When Westbrick take his team to 55+ wins by himself, we'll talk.
Your mindset is actually what's ruined "sports talk". The fact you think the box score can explain everything that goes on in a basketball game isAdvanced stats haven't ruined the game. Advanced stats have ruined casual sports talk.
No one gives a fukk about all those goddamn numbers breh.
Keep it simple.
Assists. Rebounds. Points. Blocks. Steals. Free throw percentage. Field Goal Percentage. And you know what, if you must? Throw in some PER.
THats it tho. All that other shyt is irrelevant and will always be irrelevant. I don't give a shyt about all those dumb ass ESPN stats created by people who never played the game.
He's averaging a triple double. And they are 25-7 when he gets a triple double. That's all that matters.
What he's doing is impressive. And will likely not be seen again for some time.
It's that simple.
.Who says it explains everything? It explains everything that I want to know. I don't have this insatiable desire to understand everything about basketball. For one, its not my job. Secondly It's entertainment.Your mindset is actually what's ruined "sports talk". The fact you think the box score can explain everything that goes in a basketball game is.

In my mind, Kobe is money from mid range and that's a part of what makes sports great. The illusions, the myths, the false truths. Even if he's not money from mid range, he's money to me .

Oh please, I don't watch media, or believe narratives. I just follow my eyes. I just had a discussion in the Knicks thread about how much I hate media narratives.Dawg, I ain't got no problem with you believing fake shyt if you know it fake. But you da one posting four-paragraph defenses on an Internet message board right now. You want to sit in front a TV with your beer and believe bullshyt like, "Johnny Football is terrific!" like the other narrative-driven sheep, go ahead. But you wanna come over and argue your myths and narratives on the internet, you gonna lose to people who are coming with facts.
And I LOVE the game. As someone who used to coach, I love shyt that I can tell really helps a team win, rather than the hero-ball and grandstanding and stat myths that drive fan narratives. It's a different appreciation.

This is the career winning percentage of players with triple doubles and without
Westbrook 86% and 61%
Magic 82% and 74%
Lebron 80% and 67%
Michael Jordan - 75% and 65% o
Kidd 71% and 58%
