The problem with Westbrook's play this season is it's basically a caricature of his play last season. Yes, he did play for box score stats unnecessarily at times, but his play was still putting his team in a great position of winning (top-5 in impact, it would've been even better had he not actively tried to average a triple-double). He hasn't been doing that this season; all those bad habits he developed last year are pronounced more than ever - not sticking to his defensive assignments and hunting for rebounds, assist-hunting, and playing in accordance to getting a triple-double. It's as if he's not playing basketball anymore, but trying to
play the box score.
Having a team to himself was literally the WORST thing for his game. It gave him free rein to do whatever the fukk he wanted, and what's worse is the coaching staff and the players enabled him to chase a
false historic milestone which has not only come at the detriment of his own game, but the team around him.
This shyt was in action last year, and what the basketball public failed to realize is that cheering on Westbrook to average a triple-double over a season, they were actually cheering his game to its demise.
