had to come back to this thread to re-iterate that no matter what is going on...Griselda has become a huge success DUE TO the Shady co-sign. if they didnt have that, they would be right along with the rest of the pack. its not hard to see. I first heard them back in 2014 and really knew who they were in 2015. after they got with Shady, thats when they started getting invited on radio shows where Benny kinda got introduced to the world with those freestyles. So they have nothing to be salty about and I truly feel they are appreciative if they look at the situation. If it were someone else that got that co-sign, they couldve been in the same place.

I am sure someone else here can attest to what I am saying. when did you first started hearing about them? for me, it was mid-late 2014. cuz Skyzoo and LOX were fukkin with them back then. tbh, I dug them on some stuff but when I went searching up all their solo stuff, didnt stand out. NOBODY knew who these dudes were on a national level. yeah, maybe you and i did cuz we fukk with underground. after Shady deal they started doing Sway and shyt like and thats when they started to stand out. I am not saying they werent dope, nah. just saying thats when they got light and now are able to do shows on Tidal. that couldve easily been Spesh, eto, Da Cloth or any of them other upstate cliqs. trust me, I am not trying to give Shady no props here...just calling it like I see it.

Also just to toss this out there. A couple people I used to work for are involved in the Conway Shady debut (GDMM; Feb. 12th), and apparently Conway is mostly happy with Shady recently. They cut off one or two features that he wanted on the album, but on the flip side, they’ve actually been really cool about samples. They’ve ended not only clearing some samples, but clearing more than expected. The album won’t have that WWCD/WMTS sound, and Conway’s been pleasantly surprised by how Shady’s handled the album from what I’m hearing.

As to the rest. Shady definitely helped a bit I think. I got put on from alchemist tweeting about the Griselda Ghost EP in 2015. But they definitely started getting way more media appearances after the Shady deal.

thats the point of signing to a distribution deal. thats the distributor's job is to promote what they are distributing. thats mainly what distribution deals are responsible for in this day and age since there is no physical media. when Griselda does physicals, they do limited editions through Airvinyls. you can flip your question and ask, why doesnt Shady want to promote Griselda? distribution deal relieves "labels" of budgeting and expense....so essentially their only job is to promote.

like I said, I can believe this. like who doesnt want MORE out of any situation? they felt that they should be promoted a little more on social media. they still have to be grateful for the co-sign though. like I said in other posts....the average person you talk to thinks they actually have a recording deal w/Shady. just like on the Coli people were thinking that Jay-Z actually hooked Jaz up, which is possible, even though Jaz said he basically just told him to go holla at his folk. what was a reach though was people were mistakingly saying that Jaz was signed to RocNation. Vado and Nino Man have the same deal as Jaz, but the reason how the story gets twisted is because Jay and Jaz history.

ok, so you say Roc Nation is the reason. IDK. If they said they signed with them at the same time, then ok, but when they started getting the media appearances...I dont remember anyone saying anything about Roc Nation. I only heard Shady's name being mentioned. So while Roc Nation couldve been getting them the appearances, the chatter was all Shady. I will have to watch again...but that Sway appearance was one of their most popular ones and I dont remember Roc Nation being mentioned. I do clearly remember Sway asking them about Shady Records. I also remember every interview they were in them being asked about this. I heard about them signing to Shady in late 2017 but someone here said they actually signed in early 2017. The first time I heard of them and RN was August 2019 when they posted it on their IG. I always thought they had signed with Shady two years prior. I definitely could be wrong though.

Westside Gunn and Conway signed the distribution deal with Shady in 2017, and Westside Gunn and Benny the butcher signed to Roc Nation in 2019
