What a 97mph fastball looks like coming at your head

Word. And then factor in nikkas who are nice enough to change speed, eye levels, AND have different pitches. I remember seeing a clip of Ubaldo Jimenez back when he was beasting, this nikka threw a 90 something mph two seamer to a lefty, that looked like it was headed for son's hip, then it darted back over and caught the inside corner. And son looked out at the mound like :dwillhuh: Ain't nothing like seeing someone geared up trying to hit your heat, and then have the curveball drop in on them 15 mph slower. That's like the baseball equivalent of crossing someone up and breaking their ankles.

I played catch with this kid who was a starting pitcher with his high school.
Backstory, I was home from college and I went to a church picnic in the summer. This one kid I knew who was little was now in 10th grade and grew up to be over 6'. I'm thinking, 10th grade, no big deal.
I told him to pitch some to me. I have never played catch with someone who could throw very fast, ever. He didn't want to injure himself, not having warmed up, so he was going at about 70%, no curve or sink. It probably was coming in around 70+ MPH (judging his throws against some pitching machines I've used). I could hear the threads of the ball whistling in the air. I'm like "Crap!". Having played goalie, I was used to catching fast pucks. But, this was different. I'm thinking, this dude is a good pitcher. He's not even going 100%.. It was kind of humbling because I could never pitch at that speed. My arm is too short, so I cannot get the leverage to throw it hard.
I never knew if he went anywhere with baseball after high school.

Anyway, if I ever get super rich by accident, I'm going to buy a pro-level pitching machine and set up a private batting cage in the backyard.

Are there any pitching machines that can pitch 100+? Like up to 110 or so. Asking because it seems like it would be a good way to train, not necessarily taking BP, but maybe to stand in and see a couple pitches then lower to a slower speed

im pretty sure they exist. our hs pitching machine could get up to 100 if we wanted it (we tested with a radar gun)

Yea I never played Baseball so I don't know much about the pitching machines. I took some swings at like 85 at a local batting cage. But I imagine seeing some extremely high pitches wold help someone see the pitches.

I remember seeing a story about Manny, I think, taking pitches from a machine and the balls had a colored number or letter that he would try to spot. Always thought it was kinda cool

That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you throw a called third strike: a 99 MPH backdoor fastball with 5'' of break and 10'' pfx.
