It's simple really :ld:

If your music is forced upon the people instead of the people making you hot, you are a plant.

In other words, marketing dollars spent on unknown wack artists, seen and played everywhere brainwashing the people to like the artist. Instead of the artist blowing up organically.

Back in the day the people run the industry. By that I mean the people decided who was hot. Nowadays rappers are handpicked and forced down your throats. That's why we have all this feminine shyt popping in the rap game

Not a solid depiction of a industry plant . . you're clouding the understanding

Industry plants are just the new age "unsigned hype"

idk back in the day there was still organic anticipation for an artist...think Nas after his bbq verse.

At one point in time it was just sign an artist, put out a song, if its hot, drop the album. Rinse and repeat. Think of No Limits' factory of acts, all the money was focused in pushing the music and that was it.

Nowadays, a bunch of complex PR schemes are used to fool the public and generate clickbait/interest.

Kendrick is certified industry plant, the CEO of Strange Music snitched in an interview I posted a while back.

I don't agree with Kendrick being a plant, dude was getting it in with Black Wall Street, it's not like he came from nowhere like Iggy and Macklemore...those are plants

Coli gets the definition mixed up, just because the label made it seem like he was unsigned doesn't mean he's a plant, that's just a marketing scheme. If that's the case, 2 Chainz can be considered a plant

An industry plant is an "artist" who's movement is made to appear grassroots.

Everybody has some industry ties before they blow. A lot of independent rappers get development deals under the table. It's reality deal with it. I don't think there's anything wrong with that nor does it really make you a plant.

IMO a plant is someone who didn't put the work in and is being pushed on the masses by a label/radio/etc. Kendrick and Cole either had deals or were speaking with labels long before it was revealed...but both put in that work first. They were grinding hard, doing shows and promo.

Iggy is the opposite of that. Same with Justus. And some of these southern one hit wonders.

Soulja Boy took over the internet just like Lady Gaga at that same time frame. Lady Gaga got dropped by def jam and then went hard on the internet. people would switch mp3 names...& people used myspace heavy.

Soulja Boy legit pushed it through the internet! He came up during the myspace and youtube break-out. Soulja Boy is one of the few in the last 10yrs to grinding it to the top straight from the bottom....n!gga bought a laptop so he could make his own beats to rap over.

you paid attention to Kendrick being with BWS...but no one else did. Every artist has some type of grind before the fame, even Iggy (with duke from TX) & Macelmore...you just wasnt paying attention.

Either ways, a plant is that, someone who is marketed as unsigned.

2Chainz never had a solo deal with Def Jam, he was in Playaz Circle was who was signed as a group to DTP and from that DTP had its own deal with Def Jam. When 2Chainz finally signed as a solo artists it was a brand new deal. 2Chainz/Tity Boi the solo act was always legitimately unsigned.

if that's the case, then who can be considered a plant?

Plus isn't someone who appears as an unsigned artist called Astro turfing?

Kendrick Lamar is a plant and that video spells it out for you. Being "indy" is cool nowadays so a major artists pretended to be indy to gain cool points.

astro turfing is typically what is done for an industry plant.

Happens in the white industry too, there was buzz about an artist already being signed to a major trying out for American Idol :francis:
