I know most of this board isn't messing with old school jobs...paper mills, steel mills, oil refineries, trade work...but it might be time to stop fantasizing about that gravy IT job and start learning how to read a tape measure, learning blueprints, learning how to weld/metal fabrication...shyt your grandfathers probably did.

I've been in a paper mill for 9 years, averaging over 90k and business is thriving. We can't find enough people to stay fully staffed because young folks don't want to work in a rugged, hot environment with a lot of physical labor.

Time to man up.
I agree I've been thinking of alternative options when the ball drops. I work for a tech company now and wonder when :aicmon: will come for my job. The funny think is I was talking to my old team leader about it like 7 or 8 years ago, but it hasn't yet. Eventually I'm sure it will though.

same, the job market has been downward in tech since 2022, and now it seems a lot of white collar employment has been stagnated or declining since 2024. literally nothing is looking like it will turn this around given "the economy" - ie corporations - is still doing well. plus we got 3 more years until a new jackass takes office so there's a lot of time for the government to make things worse. i've never felt this pessimistic in my life
That’s the crazy thing this guy can do a world more of damage.

Something to think about:

Reagonomics

40 years it’s been wrecking us and we know it’s been wrecking us.

So something that bad for us, we’d have gotten rid of it by now right? Nope, that bullshyt is still in place full force.

So given that, how do we know we ever undo Trump’s mess this term?

We don’t.

That’s why this was such a bad decision to elect this guy.

We may never get back to the peak America had in our lifetime.

People who think this is short term pain and expecting a rebound in the next few years have absolutely no clue like everybody else.

This may very well be the new floor. Hope everybody got a nice spot.

Agreed brehs need to come together, learn these skills and start businesses. We need more brehs doing handyman work and as auto mechanics. Those two fields alone could generate a lot of income in our communities.
