Good thread.

Bay Area scene, like most have already said.
Memphis scene.
Handful of 80's albums.
Future/Thug discography.
Geto Boys discography.

i have listened to DS2 from future and that's it. he's just not that good to me. some good beats though.

co-sign the memphis thing. outside of 36 and project pat, young buck, gotti, 8ball and mjg, i haven't really listened to anything from that scene. never really got into dolph or moneybag yo or glorilla :yeshrug:

Brother Ali is worth looking into. I liked some of the earlier atmosphere stuff. El-p is cool but I think he's better now

Heard the first Brother Ali album, it was good but need to listen to it more. Production was super early 00's (which is my bag)

Heard a few atmosphere songs and really dug them. Slug is dope and I liked the production, what albums would you recommend of theirs?

There's so much tbh. Context : born in the 80s and really started listening to HH during the 90s. But as a kid in Central Africa Republic first then in Europe, so pre-internet access was a real issue.

I don't think I've ever listened to a full De La, Brand Nubian, Ice Cube, Ice T, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, album. The only Tribe album I fully listened to is their last one, I've only listened to a couple Gangstarr albums (Moment of Truth and The Ownerz), but I did have that Full Clip compilation at some point.

I hardly know anything about the 90s Memphis scenes, same with the Bay Area, the whole "Crunk" era, a whole lot of big, older and new names I've never listened to a full album/mixtape (Lil Wayne, entire Dipset, Rick Ross, Jeezy, Wiz, Young Thug, Future, Drake, Nicki, Currensy, Travis Scott, Uzi, Vert, all those guys). Don't think I've ever listened to a full Roots album either tbh. Last Eminem album I've listened to is Encore. Not sure I've listened to a full Snoop album since Ego Trippin. I could go on and on. 50 last album I've listened to might actually be Get Rich lmao. Common I only listened to like 3 or 4 albums. I've even missed a couple GFK albums, post Fishscale basically. For decades the "West Coast" for me was just basically DR, Cypress/Soul Assassins and Warren G, basically until groups like Dilated of the Alkaholiks started making noise, later OF. Don't know nearly as much as I would of SpaceGhostPurpp and Raider Klan even though I love everything I've heard of them. Only Outkast albums I've listened to are ATliens and Speakerboxx/The Love Below (did listen to that Dungeon Fam album though).

Oh and I missed the entire Kendrick/Drake beef last year, only song I listened to is Not Like Us lol

The quintessential atmosphere album is "God loves ugly". I was a teenager listening to it and I played it a lot. Need to revisit it someday. "When life gives you lemons, paint that shyt gold" was well received when it came out but one song from it sticks out

Anyone who has a relationship with their father will feel this joint.

Overall I'd run through brother alis stuff before atmosphere. Also from that era that is super underrated is Louis logic.

Edit: damn I just remembered this verse right here, shyt blew my mind back then and it's still fire.

Which made me remember this dude too:

Good thread idea...will think of some ish and get back.

Off top, any pre-Rakim 80s stuff I don't have much knowledge of.

Lacking knowledge of the Native Tongues early 90s stuff (besides Tribe)

My knowledge is mostly 1991 - present when I was an active participant...i was just too young prior

another gap in my knowledge is damn near every female mc. Outside of songs from lady of rage, mc lyte, Lil Kim, Jean Grae, gangsta boo, Lauryn hill I can't say I've listened to many female rappers . Just never appealed to me all that much

I need to listen to more rappers from Florida. Off the top of my head there's uncle luke/2 live, gunplay, Rick ross, Kodak black, trick daddy.... Can't think of any more right now

I don't think I have many gaps outside of some of that white boy underground bullshyt from the late 90s early 00s like Aesop Rock etc etc.
damn....I was scrolling thru this thread and it took me all the way to this post to find some shyt I wasnt really familiar with. I had heard about Def Jux, and RJD2, and El-P but can't think of any particular song or album of theirs that i put on a CDR or Ipod or anything. I remember smokin weed at a white coworkers house who listened to all that shyt and he was playin some Aesop Rock. The rhymes were all off beat and terrible. Beats were an acquired taste as well. Knew it wasn't for me.

I used to burn CDs and sell em at school so I went out of my way to hear everything from every era...from every area. Closest i ventured to that world is like Southern Underground by Cunninlyguistics. Got some internet praise back then but not an album I've really revisited either. Myself i would say i haven't really gotten into alot of London hiphop outside of Dave, Central Cee and Stormzy. Also alot of this newest generation of rappers...like Yeat and Lucki, and Thouxanbafauni.

Breh, i honestly cant believe people enjoy that shyt. I always think they are trolling or just trying to look cool. Most of that shyt is absolute basura. Hot garbage

My main gap is the Bay Area like OP. I enjoy west coast hip hop in general but outside of e-40, I have a big gap there. Generally Memphis too
