I've never seen a positive stereotype labeled for us black people. A stereotype is still a stereotype.
What are some "positive" stereotypes and how do they affect you? *Poll*

There are no positive stereoypes. Even the one seemingly positive are actually negative when you give it thought.

It's "well meaning", but like you said, it's shattering their long held assumptions that black people don't know how to speak well
For example, I've made it abundantly clear that if we're playing basketball don't pick me and expect me to create my own shot ... I can defend and rebound well, but you have to set me up to score
Breaking down stereotypes one at a time
Ain't no stereotypes aboot people of my background/race positive.
Sometimes I feel like its up to me/a lone warrior to dispel those stigmas and notions.
That's why i'm out getting these blue collar gigs, don't watch anime, dating people other than my race, dress and act the way i do without it seeming contrived/negatively appropriating another culture; try to do things my way, give it my spin and personality (i don't think my approach to life is identical to anybody elses, always live to differentiate myself yet still maintaining integrity and not coming off like i'm trying too hard. It's just my eccentric and eclectic personae).
How has this affected me?
People never say hi to me first, i don't care if you're black, white, red, brown, alien, long hair and don't care... most people's perceptions of ppl of my race are nearly universally panned (so women are less inclined to date guys like me or i'm treated differently at a store because they think i'll negotiate everything, etc).
Folks only think black people have struggles; but i do to. Sure mines aren't like yours, but trust if you don't think for a second i'm not discriminated against on a daily basis. I ran a business for 6 years and help my dad run his since highschool, so people will be quick to give you the cold shoulder/boot the moment you fukk something up. They expect you to always be on point because of how your perceived through their lens (usually false media exploits and propaganda, but like i said, i'm doing my part to create a different identity to help convince the masses that we're not all alike).
Between sohh and coli, i've been here for almost 15 years... i like to think i'm doing a good job in my quest for changing ideologies of the callow.
Once day we'll all be gray and the color stereotypes will hopefully be a thing of the distant past. Where people could marry who they wanted to marry without being concerned of social consequences and domestic scrutiny (ostracization is real, especially when you're a first generation like me who loves women of all colors - my mom didn't care who i loved, but she's dead and my dads a old school, ethnocentric dyck... lucky me).
Dr. King always had a dream that everyone would live together in harmony...
... im on a pursuit to carry the baton and maintain that dream.
Black History Month and Oriental New Year have historically always been in the same month... i'll celebrate both in unison because i love everybody. And to realize that is to separate the men from the mice, the pits from the poodles...

I dont go out much, but I always get asked if I sell weed or know where to get some.Not a positive stereotype but.. lol
Around white co workers there's always the big penis stereotype that pretty much gives black men a bit of mystery when it comes to the work place and white women wanting to smash
I got put on blast because everyone assumed I knew how to do the bus stop and electric slide but I'm like the only black man alive that has to sit down when those get played

LOLI'm very quiet and soft spoken.
The Good = People assume I'm very intelligent, so when I speak people listen. I'm also taken more serious when I do speak. I also don't get fukked with generally because of my permanentfacial expression

I'm much more of an observer than a talker, so I've definitely gotten the "I thought you were aloof/stuck up" types of comments from folks. When someone does ask me for my opinion, however, I give it to them straight, and they are super surprised. As one of the few black folks and one of the only women in my department, I can't afford to be timid.
