Low key this is an ignorant ass question. Matter fact, R&B has been ruined by the fact that it rides on "beats"

Marvin Gaye never sang over "beats", Isaac Hayes never sang over "beats", Otis Redding never sang over "beats"

My biggest regret as an old head is the day R&B and hip-hop merged. R&B has been mostly garbage since then because nikkas start with "beats" and then put a song on top of it as an after thought.

FOH with that.

agree and disagree. i def think that r and b needs to distance itself from hip hop to become popular again. at first i thought the merge was great because it was one single, not overdone. rakim on friends, mase and b mcknight- you should be mine, total and big- cant u see. but now its overkill. every song has a collabo when its not even necessary on top of that, half these rappers bars has nothing to do with the songs subject matter.
r and b may not ride on beats like hip hop does. but you still need a nice sound to ride too or get romantic too. also most of these old school songs are still being sampled. so the beats def matter

I hear ya', but I disagree somewhat because I am more inclined to listen to RnB if it has a good beat. Just a personal preference as I like more up-tempo rhythms.

For instance, I heard Cormega spit over this beat and was like.....:ooh:

Also, without the 'merge', we'd have never had piff like this....

:mjpls: So we just gonna forget one of the greatest R&B beats ever, then when 8Ball and MJG came through and treated this track like one of the hoes in this song :ohlawd:
