I'm curious to know how ppl here define what it means to be a real man. Brehettes are welcome to chime in. If you were schooled by a father figure on what it means to be a real man, please post what lessons they taught you.

I think a thread like this is much needed in these confusing times.

I'll post some cross cultural anthropological research on masculinity when I have the time.

A real black man is totally different then them cave dwelling devils
We have a different standard

Definitions of true masculinity are incredibly uniform across cultures, so technically speaking that is not true.

However, in modern times cacs are at the forefront of the anti masculine movement under the guise of equality so you may have a point.

I believe in speaking softly but carrying a big stick. Showing compassion and consideration for others. Not coercing or bullying others to get our way. Being in control of one’s emotions. Championing freedom, but within reason. Always be willing to learn.

- Able to stand on his word, if he makes mistakes he admits it, is willing to learn from those mistakes, can apologize when wrong, has problem solving skills, is willing to listen and reflect, unafraid to be himself.

- Has skills he's willing to teach others, able to plan for the future, knows conflict resolution and doesn't just engage when they can easily walk away.

- Ensures his family is well, wants them safe, ensures safety, sometimes makes decisions that aren't agreeable but those decisions make sense in the long run.

- Hardworking (doesn't have to be backbreaking labor), ambitious, sexual disciple, has acquired wisdom over the years and is willing to teach those younger than him, understands the importance of growth and teamwork.

- Doesn't show cruelty just because they're bigger or stronger, knows kindness, treats others well, respectful, doesn't seek rewards for being a solid dude, knows his worth, can disagree without yelling, honest, trustworthy.

Different cultures have different standards.

In some cultures - you gotta honor your religion

In some cultures - you gotta be employed.

In some cultures - you werent a man until you killed your first enemy.

There isn't a universal standard.

David Gilmore book Manhood In Making touches on masculinity across different cultures. Not sure if you have checked it out, it would help you flesh out these ideas tho.

He touches on Protection, Procreation and Provision across the board. I agree Competence and Sovereignty is definitely included in there somewhere.

This.

Leadership, emotional intelligence and stoic goes a long way.

Lack of brotherhood is a major problem nowadays.
