Villa Straylight.

There are Five movies in the series. Six if you count Django. Several novels and 16 issues of comics. What are the coli's thoughts on Shaft as a character and archetype? Do you feel he represents black men well in his movies?

I like the first flick a lot. Never read the books or saw the series. Haven’t seen all of the initial sequels so I can’t speak on my feelings for those.

Like the first Sam L Jackson remake/sequel as well. I haven’t watched it in forever tho but I got a feeling it’ll still work for me. Didn’t see the latest because it looked like it was leaning more into comedy than I wanted and just didn’t see the appeal.

Shaft as a hero and character were definitely needed in the era he was born into. I don’t believe he represents Black men more than any character on Grand Crew though because we’re a multitude with different flavors. But on screen, for that time period, he was needed. Context is everything and Shaft fits best in that context.

Also homie you might want to move this to the film room cause it’s a film topic. Just saying :hubie:

The latest one was actually more action than anytime else the comedy was more background.

This will get lost in the film room as there less black people in there.
