I remember seeing My Name Is when it first dropped on MTV Jams (or MTV Raps, can’t remember, doesn’t matter anyway). I may have been around 13 or so at the time. I told my brother this is the corniest shyt I’d ever seen in my young life to that point, and there was no way we’d ever hear about this Eminem guy again.

Fast forward to now.

Nas signing to Def Jam.

Thats a good one although Jay had hinted it was happening a few months before on an interview with Hot 97 so I myself wasn’t super surprised but it was a big moment.

J Cole backing down from a rap beef.

I truly couldn’t believe it. I thought Cole was behind the scenes salivating at the opportunity to go against Kendrick and tske the number 1 headband. His apology was very mature and well meaning and also one of the most disappointing moments in modern hip hop history.

For me it was Nelly putting KRS through a table.

Maybe other people saw it coming but I definitely did not

It hurts me to admit that Nelly got the best of KRS

Lil Wayne becoming a household name. I was in middle school bumping Block is Hot on loop...never thought dude would be getting referenced by the president as an unattainable level of success.
