Wherever nikkas need to be told on
you laughing but @Matt504 is exactly right.......

the way the artists in the Trap Genre express themselves is probally more authentic hip hop than alot of what we percieve hip hop to be

Trap Artists are unflitered politically incorrect, 100% honest about today's social economic conditions as well as our relationships with women...

"it's kinda hard being DRUG FREE...when GEORGIA POWER won't let a n1gga get his LIGHTS free!!" - JEEZY

that line right there spoke THE GOSPEL to me as a georgia resident dealin with these extortion like utilities... :ohlawd:

it reminded me of classic hip hop like ICECUBE's line on BIRD IN THE HAND....

In which he asks.."do a nikka got a sell a whole bunch of CRACK for DECENT SHELTER and CLOTHES ON MY BACK??" :mindblown:

its that RAW HONESTY that makes it CONSCIOUS MUSIC ...because it makes you aware of the realities of life

"these byatches be acting up...cause these nikkas be letting em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

the same way hip hop of the past spoke of nubian queens and women of wisdom....

we gotta be honest today and speak about these SUPER THOTS and RATCHET TRAP QUEENS who are terrorizing our society and destroying the ideal of family structure....

just like i told one of my patnas ...i said "street music" is just as or even more conscious as afrocentric styled music because we are not dealin with just IDEALS here...we are addressing the REALITIES OF LIFE...

I use to cringe when I heard Icecube say "LIFE AINT NOTHING BUT B1TCHES N MONEY" cause I was on that so called Conscious tip (x clan...prt..brand nubian)

But over the past few decades since I first heard those words...I have to admit CUBE might have been right all along :manny:
:jbhmm:

Gatdamnit, now I feel a little bit like a sucka for outright dismissing my breh @Matt504 :skip:

Some fair points that I'ma have to chew on. I guess my view of conscious music is sometimes maybe too limited. Too be honest, I think I may not have even given too much attention to some artists because I've just thought that they don't have anything that I really want to listen to. :manny:

At any rate, my bad @Matt504. Got some rep for the slight.

If you're talking the sound and content of trap music, this is the correct answer

3-6 is the godfathers

No debate

Only thing they didn't do was use the term "trap" in their early music

This is from gotdamn '91-'95 :blessed:

Classic :wow:

Love this thread. This is the type of shyt that should be stickyed in the booth

:feedme:

Listening to that 1991-94 3 6 mafia tape with the :gladbron: face

shyt sounds like it coulda been recorded like 2 years ago, 3 6 mafia been ahead of their time like:whew:

We might need to make an appreciation thread for them nikkaz.

Been from ny i aint catch up with their music history but now i am really interested

This nikkaz def the creators of the current trap sound if there aint another nikka who was doin it before them
:salute:

Trap Music is essentially Memphis's take on the Houston Sound which was a modified Bay Area sound slowed down some. Musically, 3-6 really originated the sound, and lyrically you could trace it a back to the Geto Boys sonically and to UGK in a sense of subject matter.

Trap Music didn't originate with Three Six Mafia. This is pretty much the origin of trap music:

^^^ And from there, you got Eightball & MJG's Comin' Out Hard. Then UGK, Master P's Ghetto D and Ice Cream Man. Yes, it's a sound that Three Six Mafia helped pioneer, but it's the more modern sound of it, not the origin.

I can't really speak on that early90 rap seeing how I was a baby but how when nikkas hear easy e Boyz n da hood they don't associate that with the modern Day trap. That beat brazy still to this day.
