Dionne Warwick was another.... though outside of "That's What Friends are For", her legacy got tarnished from the 80's on. Her cousin (Whitney Houston) picked up the tourch she had to put down and ran with that shyt full sprint. If you know Dionne's catalogue, you can hear the vocal inflections and influence all over.

@stomachlines when you made that thread on greatest male/female voices, I very, very nearly threw Marilyn McCoo in there.... but I knew very few folks would be familiar with the work like that.... lotta great artists slip through the cracks for popularity reasons.

one of my dad's favorite singers, which he calls "real singin'". dionne's work with burt bacharach is legendary, man :ohlawd:
