The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet. Real easy to read long and you learn a lot about history.

Spartacus I forget the authors name but this is one of the best books I've ever read.

Kite Runner- This one is easy to and you learn about Indian culture.

Pet Sematary-Waaaayyyy better than the movie.

Are you into crime thrillers? If so, The Alienist and The Angel of Darkness by Caleb Carr are musts. My two favorite books. I'm surprised they haven't been turned into movies yet.

Yeah read 1984 man it's a trip. There's a movie about it, I havent seen it but at least watch the movie.

I forgot to mention the Bourne Trilogy it's nothing like the movies but fukking dope all the way. Crazy action all through out.

I know you said fiction but you should check Homicide: A Year In The Killing Streets and The Corner both by David Simon. If you like The Wire this takes you even deeper into Baltimore.

Check out his short stories. "Short Happy Life...", "Snows Of Mount Kilimanjaro". deep stuff, about people wasting their lives

when i first got into reading, i would only read stuff based on the plot. crime fiction like Richard Price- Clockers, Charles Willeford, or dark anti-hero stuff like Chuck Palahniuk, Hubert Selby, Henry Miller. those books are good but the classics are much better. Tolstoy, Mark Twain, Steinbeck, James Joyce, etc. they really knew how to write and those books are more rewarding imo

goodreads.com is a good site for rec's.

I tend to stick towards the more well-known classics for novels.

Dostoyevsky and Kafka are my favorite novelists. Franz Kafka's "The Trial" is what I recommend to everyone.

i was surprised when i read Dostoyevsky. Notes From The Underground has the same feel as Fight Club & was written almost 200 years ago (doesn't seem aged at all). shows that not much has changed
