Finishing up the between the world and me by Coates. Moving stuff, especially the first 10 or so pages.

Justice by Sandel was interesting, didn't finish it. But the chapters on utilitarianism, libertarianism and egalitarianism were quite interesting. Especially the part that questioned the ownership of our own bodies.

Reading 12 yrs a slave for class right now. So I'm basically juggling books.
1001 nights is something I've been reading for fun.

Reading is the best form of entertainment

Book Summary
A hilarious and deeply touching debut novel about a son, the mother who left him as a child, and how his search to uncover the secrets of her life leads him to reclaim his own.

Meet Samuel Andresen-Anderson: stalled writer, bored teacher at a local college, obsessive player of an online video game. He hasn't seen his mother, Faye, since she walked out when he was a child. But then one day there she is, all over the news, throwing rocks at a presidential candidate. The media paints Faye as a militant radical with a sordid past, but as far as Samuel knows, his mother never left her small Iowa town. Which version of his mother is the true one? Determined to solve the puzzle - and finally have something to deliver to his publisher - Samuel decides to capitalize on his mother's new fame by writing a tell-all biography, a book that will savage her intimately, publicly. But first, he has to locate her; and second, to talk to her without bursting into tears.

As Samuel begins to excavate her history, the story moves from the rural Midwest of the 1960s to New York City during the Great Recession and Occupy Wall Street to the infamous riots at the 1968 Chicago Democratic National Convention, and finally to Norway, home of the mysterious Nix that his mother told him about as a child. And in these places, Samuel will unexpectedly find that he has to rethink everything he ever knew about his mother - a woman with an epic story of her own, a story she kept hidden from the world.

I just started this. It's shaping up to be pretty good so far. Please feel free to join me, having a book club on the coli would be dope.

I found out about this book on Ameriie's youtube channel. Books Beauty Ameriie I spoke on this before, if you get past the girly stuff she makes great recommendations.

I just finished with this.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, it's 500 plus pages but it read like a book half it's length. The books I run into that aren't outright political that take this many jabs at social issues usually come off as the work of a pompous dikkhead who decided to get his or her views off in the middle of their story, The Nix avoided that. The issues that are touched on in this work just happen to be there, and don't feel forced at all. I think most people who allow themselves to be invested in the novel will be taken on roller coaster with dips of sadness and familiar struggles, and leaps of excitement and comedy. There were one or two things I felt like could've been tied up a little better, but all in all this is a book I highly recommend. 41/2-5 stars.

I've started on an important 800 plus page grown up book, Blueprint For Black Power by Amos Wilson. :francis:

:whoa:

Don't get me wrong, Amos Wilson was a fukking prophet and I should have read this years ago, but I'll be needing something lighter to offset this when I don't feel like being a conscious adult. The suggestions that are already in thread are obviously recommendations of other conscious black folks. I need some candy to offset 800 plus pages of medicine, If anyone has suggestion please share.
