What are y'all suggestions for books that generally made you smarter after reading it?

The best would be a Book that is in your field. That has the most application in your life

Like for instance, if you are a Plumber buy a Plumber Technology book, if you are a Nurse buy a book on Biochemistry, if you are a Lawyer buy a book on Corporate Law, etc etc

History is the greatest in terms of that. I would start reading European history and the origin of their thought process on how they view the world. I would start reading books on Political Philosophy in the 1700s to the 1800s. I would start reading

1. Road to Serfdom, Friedrich Hayek
2. The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, by Max Weber

Finishing up The Two Towers portion of Lord of the Rings. Way better than the films.

Starting Star Wars The High Republic Phase 2 now.

Mistakes were made (but not by me) by Carol Tarvis. Talks about how our mind justifies itself, dissonance, doubling down, refusing facts, etc.


Not sure if it made me “smarter” but Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson made think about the death penalty a bit differently.


Have it read it myself yet, but I’ve heard “Sapiens” by Yuval Harari is pretty good as far as reviewing how we adopt certain systems (religion, agriculture, nationalism).

Starting Star Wars The High Republic Phase 2 now.

I used to really get into the Star Wars novels but after Ep 9 I fell way off. After beating Star Wars Jedi Survivor, I'm now interested in the High Republic.

Finishing up Relentless by Tim S Grover.

Great motivational book definitely one I'll be going back to periodically. He doesn't really give straight up ways to improve it's more motivation talk but it still helps put me in a positive mindset.

Next up is Courage is Calling by Ryan Holiday.

I mostly listen to books now since I don't really have time to sit and read.

I might start Day of the Jackal tomorrow

I like them so far. Rising Storm was an excellent book from Phase 1.
