too many to name. My favorites are autobiographies or those written by people who were from the era or knew the subjects. I just hate reading a hip hop book about a legend written by a white man that doesn't have a clue as to what he's talking about and wasn't respected enough to get any real information on the person he's writing about. The absolute BEST books on hip hop are the 33 1/3 series. I have 3 of them on hip hop. Ones about Nation of Millions, Dilla's Donuts, and Illmatic. That was the best book written about Illmatic. Michael Eric Dyson's book about Illmatic was trash.
I have almost all of the hip hop autobiographies. The check the technique series of 3 books was great. Those were books in which artists break down their classic albums song by song talking abut the creation, recording process, etc. The most expensive hip hop book I've purchases was a coffee table version of Hip Hop a Cultural Odyssey. it cost me about $200.
I love books. It's sad to see that many of us in 2017 still don't love to read.
