Assume you have the proper qualifications, what career would you do if not your current career or a previous career, and why?

I would go into research into some science or history field.

When I think about all the stuff I do work work or leisure, the one common thread is that I like learning about whatever the topic at hand is. I just really have a strong desire to learn.

Like even when I worked in college athletics, I often considered auditing a class just for the hell of it since I got free classes. Not even a class that would benefit my career, just a class in something that interests me. I never ended up doing it because I never had the time working like 60+ hours a week during the school year but still considered it.

It would theoretically seem like a research position would involve constant learning and I never get tired of learning.

Wouldve been an airline pilot in another life. But i got research to do in this life. :francis:

I legitimately think the stuff im working on would benefit humanity (and obviously myself) more than the pilot thing. And yes, im aware that airline pilots are just truck drivers in the sky (my little sister was the first one who told me this) , but damn id love to be up there...:mjcry:

Btw, @Cattle Mutilation research is overrated. You dont get to research what ever you want because the NSF and industry only care about sht that makes them money or fills a military quota. That mad scientist stuff is fiction. It gets to the point that you are sending out dozens of proposals only to get a few successful R-grants for some obscure bullsht.. And even then, you spend most of your time doing paperwork as the primary sponser , while an army of grad students does the actual science. I know i might be ranting a bit, but you are also forced to teach even though universities only evaluate you based on how much grant funding you can bring in.:mjcry:

I’m not talking about doing it in an academic setting. If I was doing history research I’d want to be doing it at a historical site or museum.

NGL I’ve always wanted to be one of those ridiculously well paid ppl that ate at top restaurants around the world for free and critique.
Food critic or mattress tester (sleep on em and test quality of sleep on mattress, also test how much beating it can take :mjlit:)
