I think a few changes to the CBA could improve competitive balance and give more fair compensation to the revenue generators.

Current setup:

4 years for new team, 4.5% raises
5 year deal for teams with bird rights, 7.5% raises

1-6 years = 25%
7-9 years = 30%
10 years = 35%

Id go with:

4 year max length regardless of bird rights. 4.5% raises for new teams, 7.5% raises if you have bird rights.

1-4 years = 25%
5-7 years = 33%
8+ years = 40%

Id also change rookie deals from 4 years to 3 years because the current system makes tanking too attractive to pass up, and its unfair to not pay young players based on their performance.

I think this setup will do a better job differentiating the superstars from the all stars. Talent would also be more evenly spread out.

LET HIGH SCHOOLERS BACK IN THE DRAFT!

What changes would yall make to the current system?

let hs players enter the draft

full free agency after 4 years in the league (like Shaq in 1996)

basically milk all the crackers for all their milk and crackers

No max contracts
Old school bird rights
Give teams an amnesty every 4/5 years (however long max contracts are)
Base rookie deal length and size on time spent in college (1 year in college=4 year deal worth 16 mil, 2 years=3 year deal worth 18 mil, 3 years= 2 year deal worth 16 mil, 4 years= 1 year worth 10)

Edit:
Go back to true draft lottery and don't allow teams to have back to back number 1 picks

No max player contracts

No trading players for cash( cheating)

Non CBA

Only 8 team playoffs- the NBA 1st round it the biggest waste of time in sports

Get rid of the lottery

As a matter of fact, get rid of the draft together

Treat the Draft like free agency

No max contract.

Hard cap.

Done.

:wow:

Thats what i want, but i cant see this ever happening

But youre right....

Lebron/kyrie/love
Durant/westbrook
Curry/klay/draymond
Cp3/blake/deandre

Itd be impossible to build teams like this with no max salaries. Most teams in the league would have an all star player, as opposed to now where all the all stars come from like 10-12 teams.

What's your thought on giving teams the amnesty? Seems like a get out of jail free card for bad GMing

Getting rid of max contracts would be #1 on my list. I don't

You should not be able to get Chris Bosh & Al Horford at the same prices as LeBron & Kevin Durant

Would also abolish the age limit

That's pretty much my only major gripes with the current system

1. Anyone can enter the draft at 18
2. All contracts are max 2 year deals
3. Rookie contracts have opt out clause after 1 year
4. Contraction of 10 teams
5. No salary floor or ceiling

It is :heh:. Why should teams have to suffer for years because of one bad decision (I mean if you keep making them it's on you). Let's say you have a shytty GM that signs a guy to a horrible deal. He get's fired and then you bring a new GM that is stuck working around the previous guys mess. I understand it can get ridiculous that's why I say you only get one every so many years. Players still get their money. Who loses?

Make it so 1 player can't take up 30% of a teams Cap

it would mean teams could maintain their players and have deep teams instead of 3 stars and a bunch of bums

My main beef with the CBA from a basketball standpoint is the way that rookie contracts are handled. After 3 years you should be an UNRESTRICTED free agent. Yes, players can leave if they do like Greg did and sign a one year deal, but it's far too risky to play on a one year contract. If anything they can make it so the team that drafted them has more money to offer, but they shouldn't be restricted free agents. A lot of players never reach their full potential or end up out of the league because of this
