Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
A friend of mine use to play with Ben Gordon at far rock houses...I'd count him as NYC.

Kobe is counted a Philly guy in the basketball world regardless, he was born there and raised in the area.

You'd count him as NYC, but he'd tell you he's from Mount Vernon not NYC.

Kobe didn't live in Philly, didn't go to school in philly and didn't grow up there, how is he from Philly? Living 20-30 miles outside a city doesn't mean you're from there.

I'm not sure what he would say, either way Mt Vernon is in Westchester which is considered apart of the NYC area...it is it's own city, where Lower Merion is not. It's considered a Philadelphia suburb.

Either way, I'll have to repsepectfully disagree. As being from Philly myself, I knew of Kobe back when he was in Lower Merion around 1996 or so when he took Brandy to his prom...the kid was considered a philly basketball player by anyone and everyone. Everyone from "fans", scouts, sports analysts, sports radio jocks, and Kobe himself.

BTW...if you're going by the strictest definition of "from", then you forgot to mention that he was born in Philly...that's how he's from Philly. What you are literally focusing on his address...rather than his environment.

I could see if he were born in LA and then moved to Lower Merion and spent no time in Philly at all. But that isn't the case...the kid was born there and raised there (except when he moved to Europe). I'm not sure if he ever lived in the Philadelphia cityline limits; but he most certainly is a product of Philly's basketball stomping grounds and was acclimated with the city. The man played and trained with Eddie Jones (Temple) and Jerry Stackhouse (Sixers) back then. He was also known to play in some of the local games in Philly. In otherwords, you don't have to be in the center of gravity to be affected by it. BTW... If you are familair with Philadelphia HS sports...then you would know that even back then his name was pasted all over the Phildealphia Inquirer HS Boys basketball section.

There are a chain of relationships there that prove my point.

Westchester is not considered a part of NYC breh, there's a long standing rivalry between players from Mount Vernon and those from the City.

He's not from Philly though, if you go to his Wikipedia it says Lower Merion HS, not Strawberry Mansion or any other philly school. It's not like he was living in Philly and going to Lower Merion, he lived in Lower Merion and went to school there.

He's from Philly the same way LeBron was "from" Cleveland, and the people in Philly boo that nikka mercilessly, they hate his guts. Nobody says he's from Italy, and the dude actually lived there, shyt Melo gets a lot of flack for claiming NY but he actually lived in Brooklyn....Kobe never spent more than a couple days in Philly.

It is considered the NYC area. I don't know about you, but I live here and have lived here for more than a decade. Long Island and Westchester are considered greater NYC.

He's from philly he was born there...his wikipedia page even says that. He was raised in a Philly suburb. The man is from Philadelphia any way that you shape it.

All of this is false. Those who don't like Kobe, simply don't like him because of his perceived arrogance and smugness. It has nothing to do with his living in Lower Merion. Like I said before, when he was coming up, he was known as a Philly ball player...everyone from "fans" to scouts, and to the media. He played in local games, trained in Philly facilities and attended parties; whether you lived in Philly or lived in another country. That was basically his ballplaying rep.

LOL and people don't consider him from Italy, because he was neither born there nor raised there, unlike his connection to Philly.

I would only agree with you if he were from somewhere like Allentown, or Harrisburg. Those are two examples of two totally different cities with their own identities about an hour outside of Philly. But Lower Merion, Montgomery County, Bucks County, Chester County etc are considred "philly"...most of the black people there especially are connected to philly by birth, employment, family or all of the above.

Google anything "Kobey Byrant and Philly" and every reference to him will be as a philly ball player.

Probably Chicago nowadays. LA got some hoopers. Northern Jersey stay laced heavy as well.
