It's pretty niche. The CRPG genre was relegated to niche games until Baldurs gate 3 dropped and brought them back to relevancy again. I expect we'll see a lot more AA and AAA crpgs get greenlit now
every publisher has more or less treated consoles like an afterthought for CPRGs too. not shocked they're under the radar for many still

I mean for true role playing nerds it's the best genre of rpg. The story, choices, and scenarios that you can create are unmatched. Sure you lose out on some of the flashier combat stuff you might see in elder scrolls or mass effect but the trade off is worth it. I think there probably exists a perfect blend of crpg and action rpg mechanics tho. We just haven't found it yet since these games are so expensive to make that any experimentation has to be incremental.

For me, it’s not about the combat, i think what makes Larian games more easy to digest over some others is they just have less on screen reading. They try and make a lot of the dialogue and big moments cinematic like the 3rd person action rpgs, while maintaining the strategy and freedom of classic CRPGs. having fully voiced dialogue interactions helps a lot.

also, the gamepad and console stuff definitely plays a large factor.

Not trusting Bethesda after Starfield. Now, Im worried about The Elder Scroll 6.

I ended up buying a second hand series x for cheap just to play it. I wasn’t blown away like the first time I played new Vegas, FO 3, or Skyrim, but I wasn’t really disappointed either. It took a while for me to get bored with it and that was just because of the limitations. Otherwise it was the space RPG I’d always hoped for. After a minute I just went hard on mods and had fun dominating everything and exploring every little thread I could.

I wish they had chilled out on the base construction, outside of ship building, and focused that energy on other parts of the game. It nice I was done I just sold my X and went back to playing my PS5 and Upgrading my PC.

I’m not super worried about ES6 as long as it looks good. We deserve much more, but I can live with the systems of Skyrim/oblivion with a modern look. Unless someone comes out saying ES6 will permanently brick my PC then it’s still a day 1 buy on steam for me.
