my parents are still married....all of my aunts and uncles are and most of the family friends around them are.... I thought this was normal until I left home at 17 and found out that more often than not most of the people I hung around with were from single parent families....

I have two married sisters and one married brother....Im probably gonna get married within the next 2 years at some point...

my mom was never a stay at home housewife and my pops is not one of those guys that expects a hot plate of food on the table when he comes home....but the only time my pops goes to the kitchen is to make coffee and he always came home to a hot plate of food...

My Dad is the head of the household but he has never had to say it or more importantly show it....my parents are cool...... crazy but cool

That is like my bf. His parents are still together, and hearing my family stories, he didn't realize how uncommon that was. I love seeing his family togetherness. Gives us something to strive for.

My parents been married for 33 years. I remember the day I was getting married my father pulled me aside and told me he was proud of me. He told me that marriage is about communicating, partnership, and sacrifice. I told him that I have pretty good example of how a good marriage works and then he got all teary eyed on me, which almost made me get caught up in my feels too.

i lowkey feel the same way

I think it's a great style to a relationship. Sure my parents have their beefs where they won't talk to each other for like 2 days (lol @ sleeping in the same bed with someone you're mad at) but you can see them both hurting when they go thru it and they get over it like it's nothing. They're always happy to see each other too. It's like the relationship is fresh still after so long.

My brothers dad passed away from aneurysm when my brother was 7 and I really think he was her "true love" and she kind of shut down after that.

Nearly 10 years later she met my dad and had me but she said my dad had a temper and wanted to fight and she was like :camby: and dipped.

I think on one hand I'm looking for some true love shyt but I red flag behavior that probably could be sorted out with just a conversation and look for an exit early.

my Dad retired in his late thirties early forties when he decided that he had made enough money and he didnt want to devote his life to something as meaningless as "chasing money" ...... me and my brother low key call my mom "Tony Soprano" ....she has her fingers in so many pies and we often joke that shes probably had peoples legs broken......

they are polar opposites my Dad is very much laid back and easy going while my mom wears her heart on her sleeve...

the reason why it works and the main thing I take from their marriage is they never tried to change each other.... thats one thing Ive taken on board in my own relationships

EDIT: Ive never seen my pops cry....EVER.... but hes one of the kindest most compassionate people I know and people are forever coming up to me telling me things my pops has done for them and how great he is

my mom cries when shes happy, when shes sad...... I guess because of my Dad even though I shouldnt I tend to look down on overly emotional guys...

I honestly have to say it was only after I left home that I REALLY appreciated my parents especially my pops.......things I had taken for granted like him reading to me and my brother at night before we went to bed when we were kids, him teaching me to read, how to tie my shoelaces, how to drive when I was 15, how to knot a tie....

telling me he was proud of me he was when I was 25 even though he knew I was fukking up and doing all kinds of nonsense and apologizing to me for being to hard on me when i was growing up......
