What direction should Rusev's character go in

Rusev just needs to be rebuilt.

I wouldn't mind if they run a storyline with rusev destroying the vanilla midgets in the cruiserweight division on some Kevin Nash/dudley boyz type of stuff.

Maybe have sami zayn be the savior of the division & let them fued for a while.

He needs to be drafted to SD where he can beat the veterans (Cena, Orton) and be pushed into the uppercard.

but a family man gimmick with a violent twist sort of like Viggo in A History of Violence could work. I know Viggo was a former gangster but still, I just don't think the mobster gimmick is gonna work now a days but who knows

It's not just about which idea has been done before, its about whether that idea is interesting enough to re-visit and add new layers to. A monster heel who beats people up is about as generic as you can get, because a monster heel who beats people up is a character trait, not a gimmick. You can still be a Russian mobster who beats up cruiserweights you know.

Let's not even mention that Braun Strowman is basically that anyways, or that a hoss who bullies little guys isn't exactly what Baron Corbin does on SD. You're basically suggesting that the best thing for him is to be another guy who bullies little people when there's 2 of those on the roster rn.

The Russian nationalist gimmick is not gonna take him to new heights no matter what they do with it. And it's not like this is just me, when everybody knows Rusev as a character is and has always been ehh.

And it doesn't have to be an explicitly defined "Russian mobster" gimmick if you're concerned about PG, the core of my suggested character is that he's a European who walks around in suits and jewelry, has scary goons in tats, a bad bytch, and is mean. He could be defined as a crooked businessman, a Russian tyc00n, whatever you want.... You could even make him GM of Raw and just have him be an evil authority figure and it would work the same. And it's not like a mobster character is too wild for PG TV anyways, as long as you don't have gratuitous death, violence, cursing, or sex it should be fine

If they truly wanted him to get/be over they would stop pulling the rug from out under him every time he builds up some momentum. The gimmick was doing just fine until they started to feed him to Cena and Reigns on the regular.
