That’s the technical answer … they don’t be doing nothing for real lol. At my old job that was my hang out spot. Could always dip into HR, crack jokes and chill until there was a fire I needed to put out. Unless it was an orientation day, they weren’t ever doing much of anything unless some drama popped off with an employee. I think that’s most corporate jobs though.
it’s cyclical work. During certain parts of the year there isn’t much to do, but the company is fukked if they mess those tasks up when they need to be done

Was bouta put some bullshyt on them but my HR works at corporate level and she observes stats, doubles as LP/AP, triples as safety, and visits stores in the district regularly.

The reps that work on site, I don't think they do anything half the day unless something is happening that they need to take part in

Lots of shyt. Dealing with employee problems, they go to HR first. Anything benefits, payroll, health, 401k, employee relations, paid leave, disability, fmla, recruiting, business planning, talent management, compensations, legal, etc.

There's a reason why these functions are typically separated because running an organization and its people is a tough job.

I work in HR. Without us, the business don't run and would be subject to legal exposure. Especially if you got out of control or ignorant of the law managers. I wish people were more appreciative of us.

In a mid or large organization, you'll have several sub divisions within HR:

HR Recruiting
HR Benefits
HR Compensation
HR Leave Adminstration (Leave of Absences, Workers Comp, Disability, FMLA, etc)
HR Data, Systems and Compliance
HR Training/Learning and Development
HR Employee Relations

Each department plays a critical role to the company and they often interact with each other in some capacity.

- Write crazy job descriptions asking for 10 years of experience for a technology thats only been around for 5 years
- Post jobs that ask for sr level skills but pay jr level salary
- Require bachelor's and masters degrees to weed people out but in reality you couldve did this job in the 10th grade
^^ I'm a recruiter but at my job.

HR is us as recruiters,(talk to Hiring Managers, post job, recruit for roles, interview etc)
Compensation and performance management,(look at market to see what the going payrate is for jobs before we offer (It's required in NYC to post),look at merit's and bonus and make sure there's internal equity across the board
Compliance/employee relations (unruly boss, bad co workers the typical HR role)
Generalist (onboarding/orientation, off boarding)

My sister is an HR assistant, she does the majority of the work that her head HR person is supposed to do. Just last week, her boss called her into the office then when she was halfway there, she called back saying she didn't need her anymore but since she was nearby, did she want to meet for lunch :dahell:
