Because a Jamaican man and a Vincentian woman met in a barber shop in Toronto, they got married, and I was born almost exactly a year later (which is today!). My parents never lost touch with their roots either, so growing up, there was a lot of that being around the house. That still goes on, to this day, in fact. My parents'll be in the living room watching these big festival performances where they've got tons of reggae artists performing, and if not that, they'll be watching stuff about the politics down in St. Vincent. My Mom'll always have the radio on Star FM, tuned in. And my Dad'll have cricket on whenever matches are happening.
I also looked forward to holidays not only because of the festivities, but because I knew that curry goat was around the corner. That, along with a plate of rice is still my weakness.
