No clue. But, I'm guessing it's a diss. We don't have "Antebellum culture" which is basically saying "slave culture."
It's sad he even said that mess.
People are calling him out -- as they should. Still sad.
Actually they are not. Most African Americans will trace a significant portion of their ancestry back to the coastal regions of the Carolinas and Georgia. People did not move West until about 200 years ago after the Louisiana Purchase.
No this is likely a troll account meant to spread seeds of dissension and in-fighting. They’re basically pulling a “we’re not like the rest of yall nikkas”...and that’s not a vibe I’ve ever picked up from Gullah/Geechie folks. To be fair to him though, not everyone uses ADOS as a substitute for black Americans yet. Some still just see it as an online movement. So i don't think he is saying he isn't African american like some posters are interpreting it. He may just consider ADOS an online movement and not be down with it.
If you grew up hearing older black people talk, you should understand some of itSo you're saying there are not any differences between gullah's and other black americans (excluding regional differences between black americans) ? Like their dialect would be understood by non-gullah ADOS ?
yes gullah gullah island was based on the cultureSo for a person that's not smart, are they somewhat related to the people from Gullah Gullah Island? I know that's childish but what country do they come from? How did they settle in that part of the country? Who are they? My dad lady from one of the islands. I forget because she sounds like Ms. Cleo so I always forget. Excuse my ignorance
yes gullah gullah island was based on the culture
And they are ADOS. Just s specific subset of the culture based out of the low country, mainly coastal south carolina
there are similarities due to the cultural conditions of living on islands on the sc coastI really didn't mean it in a bogus way. Is it something they held since they got dropped here? I also thought it was some Caribbean shyt. Any books would be dope. I don't even have a grasp on the West Indies and most Caribbean spots. They don't teach that shyt
negged for being an idiotDude is right. Africans had become "black Americans" by the time America was being built.
If you think about it, besides skin color Africans and Black Americans really have nothing common cuz the cultural connection does not exist anymore
he never denied geechie being African American just using the ADOS monicker for identity due to it's reference to slavery as a qualifier in identity...Both of my paternal lineages go back to Charleston SC. AKA Gulla geechie capitol
They are the most unapologetically Afram Ados group in the country
lol at them being regarded as something else. Basically just a distinct low-country carolina sub culture
