So it makes sense to include college records when determining who is the best coach in the NFL?
Stop trying to frame the discussion to your liking. Several people have mentioned how well he coaches "football", regardless of the league. I'm in the camp that he's a great football coach.

Of course he is a great football coach, he made it to the NFL you dummy.

No one who isn't a great football coach doesn't make it to that level.

This is some pat me on the back shyt if i`ve seen any. We could do that about QB's too, Ryan Leaf is a great football player, let's just judge his whole body of work not just his NFL career.

Ryan Leaf?

Carroll has a winning record in the NFL, you neanderthal. Again, just say you hate him. No need for all these posts.

Also Jim Harbaugh turned around the 49ers and took them to the NFC Championship game and to the Super Bowl. He's been coaching in the NFL 2 years.

Pete has never done anything like that in his many years in the league, this is his 3rd job. Case Closed

Dumbies don't get it.

To some people the HC picks the players and personnel.

They're still figuring out this football thing

No you obviously don't get it. You conveniently leave out the fact that Seattle was one of worst teams In football when Pete got there and turned it around immediately.

Carrolls coaching accomplishments > Harbaughs. Only an idiot wouldnt see that. Are u an idiot? :usure :

Carroll probably has been the main decision maker in one of the biggest roster overhauls in the past few years.

He inherited a bum ass squad and had them defeat the defending super bowl champions in the playoffs with said team.

He said his greatest regret was allowing running back Curtis Martin to depart as a restricted free agent in 1998 -- he had warned the team's top decision-makers that Martin was upset with his contract situation, but felt he didn't have the authority to rectify it -- and acknowledged that he didn't realize how powerfully the public perception of relaxed, chillin' "California Pete" would work against him.

"I followed the absolute coach of the decade," Pete Carroll says of taking over the Patriots from Bill Parcells. "I don't think I weighted the impact of that properly."
Carroll also explained that his experience in New England, when his teams went 27-21 in the regular season, taught him one important lesson: If he was ever to come back to the NFL, it would only be with the authority to make those crucial Martin-like decisions.

He also has been described as the NFL's most positive coach and has the most unique style to coaching: http://www.nbcsports.com/pete-carroll-win-forever-pyramid-positive-approach-joe-posnanski

Rice says he’s never played for a coach even a little bit like Pete Carroll. The guy is relentlessly, even absurdly, positive. He’s constant energy. He never stops being cheerful and enthusiastic and encouraging. Five minutes after going over a mistake you made in a game, he might ask you to play one-on-one basketball.
He also talks in riddles. At the entrance of the locker room, there’s a sign that says this: “To win the NFC WEST, we will sacrifice the easier wrong for the more difficult right. Both on and off the field. Leave no doubt.”

Give the man some credit. He's been very successful in a short amount of time, has his players' full support, has been a big factor in a large roster overhaul and has been doing it with arguably the most unique approach in the game. It's obviously too soon to have him crowned as the best because he needs more on the field achievements..but he is obviously in the upper tier and seems to have developed a winning formula.

lets forget about chick's stint with the browns

Beli has won 3 Super Bowls.

Pete has won nothing on the pro level and all of his accomplishments at the college level have been surrounded by rules violations.

Re-open this thread when Pete has some big time NFL success.

Yes Pete's whole career is greater than Harbuagh's.

Harbaugh's NFL career is greater than Pete's. He's had more success in 2 years that Pete has had in his 7 w/ 3 different teams/

Im'a pro football fan, I could care less about what someone does in college. Don't even watch it

:ohhh: Damn he only took over in 2010.. Why does it feel longer. Yo dude really rebuilt that damn team in a short time. Impressive.

yeah remember when they had Hasselbeck still and they went 7-9 and won the NFC West? That was Carrol's first year and they traded for Lynch mid season and then beat the Saints who were the SB Champs and then lost in Chicago the next week in the divisionals.

It feels like ages ago but it really wasn't that long ago :wow:

He's coached in the NFL for seven years, he hasn't accomplished much of anything in those 7 years. He`ll be judged that way.

Bobby Ross went from college to pros and took Chargers to Super Bowl. Raymond Berry had a quick turnaround and success with Patriots and brought them to the Super Bowl in 1986. Jim Fassel brought the Giants to the Super Bowl. Is Harbaugh better than them?
