One in the Midwest would shock me. There's a fault that runs through the Midwest that's produced some earthquakes that measured above 8.0 in the 1800s. The only reason there were no fatalities or widespread damage is because those areas were largely uninhabited. If it happened now, that would be crazy.

That's how they were able to determine how devastating it could have been if there were people there. They could tell by water marks on trees just how many feet it had risen. Just the flooding alone would have wiped everything out.
