it still took a human to create all of those things and write the program.
it wouldnt matter. after an ai becomes smart enough and has human general intelligence, it COULD skyrocket past us into something we would call a god. himans would not be able to outthink or outmaneuver something like that.

Machines require maintenance. Even if they do acheive sentience, they'll break down eventually

Philosophically speaking, if consciousness was achieved, the entity would understand what it is, then it could decide what it wants to be, it could then reprogram itself to edit out sympathy, or, pain, or whatever. My question to those in this thread is what would you change about yourself if you could? I think most people would delete the need to sleep, delete the feeling of pain, make themselves better looking, etc. It would be catastrophic

It would probably be the end of humanity. We already have AI that is much smarter than us though, just in a limited field. For instance, a calculator is a primitive AI that is much smarter than humans in calculating, Google is another that is much smarter in what it does. What you are referring to I think is an artificial superintelligence. An AI that is smarter than any human in any endeavor. An AI like that would be able to do anything it wanted and would probably destroy all of mankind either directly or indirectly. Or it might just self-destruct. Scientists agree that it is will happen, but like you said, they can't agree on the date.

Humans don't require maintenance? We're still here. The machine can probably reproduce itself

That's a world in which humans are creating their own demise. Once you unleash a super smart AI into the world, it will eventually replicate itself onto countless machines via the internet. You better hope it doesn't turn malicious.

And what's stopping them from reproducing or fixing themselves.. hell.. what's stopping them from transferring their consciousness to a new vessel? They are not bound by the same laws as us, they'd quickly come to the realization that we are inferior in every possible way.

Everything you may fear about an AI humans have already done. Genocide, atomic bomb, torture, slavery, humans are fukkin crazy

lol idk why people think some robot shyt can enslave us. This ain't Syfy.

We're always gonna be the alpha males

It comes up so often because everyone can understand that giving Robotics sentience isn't a really good idea, because a conscious being is eventually going to ask "why" or tell you "no" when you demand something of it.

I bet one day two robots will have an argument about how they came about, one will say evolution or something stupid and the other will say "there was a creator who made us in his image" and the other robots will laugh at him.
